Noise only during acceleration

I'm having problems with a very annoying and loud noise in my 02 Jeep wrangler. It only happens when I accelerate and its gets louder and a little higher in pitch when I go faster. Its not really a squeal and not really a grind. Its maybe a little of both sounds, just annoying. The noise goes away if I let off the gas and coast. Its seems to be coming from the front passenger side of the car. I did a little investigating, by that I mean I took off the wheel, and saw nothing obvious. I did though change the brake pads. I can work on my car myself but have trouble diagnosing problems. Any help would be very appreciated.

Paul

bad U Joint is a good possible culprit , my rear one acted like that but didn't show the usual signs . I just took an educated guess and found a dry cup " bingo " but a chirp in the front is usually the centering ball in the upper joint on the front DS

Okay. Does it make it at like 5mph? You could have someone watch and listen to it.

That sounds vry similar to what I was having bout 3 months ago. Very difficult to isolate the source as to where it was coming from. Somewhat of a mild grinding sound and only when I would get on the gas. Seemed to resolve at higher speed as well. Thought my clutch was going out. Turned out be bad u-joints. Got em swapped and problem resolved. Good luck, it drove me nuts for quite a while trying to figure it out.
