Hello all!

I am deploying for the winter with my Guard unit and I will be getting a Wrangler my first week back from a dude deploying with me. Although I will have a nice chunk of change when I come home the Wife and I want to buy a house so I set my Jeep spending limits to $8,000

It's a 98 Sport clean with just under 100k miles and I am getting it for around $5,000 ( I have 6 months to talk him down while we are deployed )

I want a 4" lift and some decent tires amoung other things is around $3,000 enough for a decent lift and tires done the "right" way? I want nothing shotty like hockey pucks or upside down shackles (No offense to anyone who has done this) I just want my Jeep to perform off road and on road well.

Any pointers on what to get?

Definitely avoid shackles. as you'll never find a good use for them on a TJ.

Personally I'd look to Old man Emu on the lift.

Really depends on what you're going to do with the jeep as to where you should spend your money.

Welcome.. does the 98 have the dana 44 rear? As for lift kits, you will get all kinds of responces. Stay with a name brands not a parts store lift, where you have no clue who made what. With 4" of lift plan to for a SYE kit and new rear shaft to do it right. You may want to look into a kit like the Rubicon express 3.5 lift as it will net close to 4". Will clear 33's. Old Man Emu are also good and ride nice, but are on the higer side of price.
