Here is what the Jeep is used for;
This is not a DD; it is a high mileage (264,000) Jeep set up to be towed behind our Motorhome. I might put 1000 miles a year on this vehicle. The Jeep will spend most of its life in the Dunes (Pismo, Glamis, Florence, & Sand Mtn). It will also be used to take short drives while camping.
With the current setup, it does ok but I want to have a more absorbsion and travel to soak up bumps, dips, and whoops. We dont just cruise around on the flat areas either, we like to climb up the dunes which requires some speed and momentum. I dont feel the need to go much higher than 2" or 3" for a lift and I would like to stay at $1000 or less.
Am I dreaming here or do I have reasonable options.
As has been said, I would check out a good 2" lift kit, like an Old Man Emu
, or a Teraflex 2" Coil Kit
. both kits will give you great handling in the dunes.
Since you plan on towing it, you still want it to have good road manners behind the camper. So, keeping it low and running a 31"-32" tire will be perfect.
Since you want a better high speed ride, getting the pucks out and replacing them with coils is exactly where you want to start. The shocks will be a big part of your set up, because they are really what control the wya the Jeep will react to bumps, whoops, holes, etc...
