not very happy

Well I bought some half doors a couple weeks ago and went to a well know paint shop to get the paint mixed up, cuz I have a friend that paints he just told me to get the paint, so I drove the jeep up so they could match it up, got the paint took the doors to my buddies, he called me yesterday and said they were done, went and got them and reassembled them, stuck them on the jeep and this is what I ended up with

i'm taking a shot in the dark here but I think without painting the entire Jeep, that's what is going to happen. Being that your Jeep is a '98, the paint on the rest of the body is faded from years in the elements compared to the fresh paint on the doors.

Guessing the rest of the body is original paint? They probably just pulled the code and matched the paint like that. Just my opinion but I don't think you'll never get it matched up like that.. Best bet is to get the rest painted fresh

Ooooh. Ouch. Yeah, I'd imagine it'd be damn tough to match up to 15 year old paint without a couple of test shots and adjustments. You could always rhinoline them to match the interior? Sorry man...that's about the best advice I've got. Hopefully someone with some paint knowledge will post up.

edit: Dang - I type so slow two different people had a chance to post (one of them twice) before I got out half a paragraph.

Now I just read this in another post and not sure what the process is, but if you have a NAPA around, might be worth checking into. See the post by RevCo666

Get some rear body armor, powder coat it black or have him paint that too. For the front. Time for flat fenders. Hood = PSC louvers. Rock rails will cover the well you know rockers. Viola...New Jeep. LOL

Worth a shot but I would attempt to restore your old paint.Try washing the jeep, use a clay bar, then cutting and finishing polish. You may be surprise once that oxidized layer is removed the contrast may be less noticeable. Stick with Meguiar's brand.

I wouldnt advise doing any " cutting" on 15 year old factory paint. You can buff on it but those light blues are notorious for loosing their pigment, they are a very low solids color which means no UV holdout.

No they didn't just pull the paint code they guy actually chipped the paint to get a match and he had different shades of it that adjusted for fade and whatnot, the guy had like 15 different shades or samples of that one color, I just think the machine didn't mix it right, cuz when he set a sample card on the hood it matched perfectly, and I keep it buffed and waxed on a regular basis so id think doing that is gonna help much but I'm going to try it and c if it helps any.

Maybe a paint shop can try to match the (faded) body panels, then just reshoot the doors. Has to get closer!

Sorry, your last post beat mine. If that's the case, drive the Jeep over and show them the "match" result. Maybe they'll make it right! Hope so.

I've yet to see a paint sample card that actually matched perfectly. Granted that's walls of a house but still. Hope you get it worked out!

Use some Meguiar's Cleaner Wax followed by polish and then wax and see if that makes a difference.

Nah that's ok I like the color of my jeep it just ticks me off cuz I even asked the the guy at the shop before I went and got it if it would be any problem matching it since it was faded, cuz if it would I would take it to a body shop and c what they said, and he said no that they do it all the time

From what i understand, the NAPA guy takes a special type of camera and places it on the area you need to scan, they take that info to there computer and it provides the best match you can get(kinda custom). I dont know if its every NAPA store that does this process as I live in Ontario, Canada but im sure most do this. Costs extra but may be worth looking into.

I had the same problem when I painted my front fenders and hood. After I polished the old paint on the body and half doors it matches better but not perfect.

Every paint mfg has one, its called a spectrometer. Trust me, anyone who tells you it will get a perfect match with that is full of it. If they worked like people think/ want to think they do every painter would own one.

Even spraying technique will change color. I painted my chevy truck one time with it in pieces. I had the doors laying flat and the rest of the truck sitting normally. Painted everything at once using the same paint.. When I installed the doors they were very much noticeably darker then the rest of the truck. The pigment had risen and the metal had sunk in the paint.

This is true, but more likely it was due to more product being applied and the metal flakes not orienting correctly

Yeah if you take parts off to paint, they have to be hanging the way they will sit on the vehicle when painted. Still don't think that is the issue here. Good luck and keep us updated. As others said you can always bed line them black.
