NOVA Jeeps and "The Wave"

I am currently living in the Northern Neck of VA. Most Wranglers wave. This has sparked many discussions in the forum lately but I have noticed that a lot of city dwelling Wranglers don't wave back. I wave to ALL wranglers.

This is weird and I am wondering why this is. When I am in NOVA I usually don't get a wave back.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I noticed the same thing driving from F-burg to Winchester and back over the weekend. Got about 50/50 response. Jeeps should just not have 4 doors or air conditioning.

Haha well I've noticed that anyone that has a suit on won't wave, and 90% of the 4doors won't even give you the time of day, but 90% of jeepers drivin somethin older that an 07 will wave. I actually pulled up to a guy in a spotless 2010 4door at a stop light and I said "hey man you need to get that thing dirty!" with a smile and as soon as the light turned green he flipped me off and sped off... Soo ya lol that's the metro area for ya

Yeah....I have to say that the 4 door wranglers are the worst in that area.

I have also noticed that the people who have done some Mods to their Jeep tend to wave more often than the "stock" Jeeps.

Oh well, Still Waving! LOL

Failure to get a wave is bad enough but alot of these "non-wavers" look at you as if you're crazy. It almost makes you not want to wave at all!

I drive quite a bit for work - today I'm going from my house in Orange to Charlottesville to Staunton to Front Royal to Winchester to Gore, then Bealton, Culpeper and ending at home - about 300 miles (A short day for me!) I drive the Jeep as a daily driver - some of the places I go need clearance AND 4WD - and I'll wave at every Wrangler I see. I agree that the 4 doors don't often wave and most of the pre-2007 drivers DO wave. Almost ALL the Jeeps I see with the top off/down and/or doors missing wave. I drive with my top on and doors on when working - paperwork, laptop, GPS, sat radio, etc seem more secure. And yeah, I run my A/C too - it's supposed to be 97F here today with a 107 heat index. Yeah, I'm a wuss...

as some one who lives in northern virginia during the week, and lives in the northern neck on the weekends, ive noticed this to. but its not just with jeeps. on the whole, the NOVA drivers are just more oblivious to things. they dont really pay attention. and (at least in my area) a lot of the kids driving wranglers are spoiled little brats who dont know what the wave is. down in the NNK you get nice people who actually know how to drive.

I have also noticed that most of the time JK owners do not wave. I wonder why?

because most JK owners are just driving a car...or suv...not a jeep.
I wave to other JKs and they don't wave back. I had a guy in a JK all four doors off and top off....he saw me, but didn't even give a extra glance, just kept on driving.

Saw 19 Wranglers today. 9 waved or waved back. Not one 4 door waved at all. Oh well - the 9 that did were awesome

i Think that the jeep dealers should start letting everyone no that when the buy a JEEP they have to "Wave"... Or At least let them the customers no that there is a Wrangler Wave.
I dont no what you guys think on this, but thats what i think they should do.

Jeep dealers used to mention the Jeep Wave, at least my sales reps did when I bought my several Wranglers over the years. Also, when I bought my 2004 TJ new, Chrysler sent mailings of the Jeep magazine each quarter and the wave was always mentioned in the mag. I don't know if these things still come from the dealer or not. Some of you JK owners can chime in on that. I have the same experiences you guys have mentioned about Jeepers not waving back. I wave at all Jeeps, always have. No offense to anyone on here but most of the non-wavers I encounter are college guys. We have 3 universities here and a lot of Jeeps on the road. I'm middle-aged now and I guess they see me as representing a by-gone tradition they find silly. To see them look at me like I'm a freak when I wave makes me determined to keep on giving the wave. Maybe I'm all wrong and they don't wave because they really don't know about the tradition. I was raised during a time when people waved at each other on the road no matter what you drove. Either way, not waving goes against what Jeeping is about - FUN! When you wave how can you not feel good?

Well I'm certainly one 4dr JK that will wave every chance I get, with or without the top. I'm with the OP, with days like they are now, I need the A/C. I get to drive to Spotsylvania in the AM, Richmond by noon. When I'm done in Richmond I'll take 522 all the way home with the top down if there's no rain in the mix. Wave on...

Hey. I run into the same issue up here in Michigan. I've found that most of the JK owners don't wave. My Dad has noticed the same thing with the newer Corvette owners. So the problem is not just with Jeeps from what i see. It's a shame really.

Plus I think the Tops on the JKs must have a defects from the factory. Do the tops not come off??? I only see the hard tops on or the soft tops up on these awesome summer days.

Response around here is spotty, have had a lot of women give me the wave, even though it's obvious they don't play off-road,in pre-JK models. There is one older guy(I'm 47-he's older than me,for sure!)has a really tricked-out 2 door JK Rubicon,we pass almost daily, without doors, and I always get the wave from him,and another JK Rubicon that looks like it is ready to run Baja(he obviously has WAY too much money!)waves.Other than that, most JK s I see are soccer moms who got tired of Suburbans!Get strange looks from a lot of the newer ones, but I still do it unless it is an obvious soccer mom! Most JKs around here do not get my respect, other than the obviously cool ones!

Passed 2 4dr JKs in Gordonsville, VA and they waved. A TJ in Richmond just gave me a puzzled look as he drove by.

I would say I get 90% out of CJ/YJ/TJ owners but only an occasional wave from a JK and I rarely see them topless either. I did have a cool wave today though. I passed a yellow 4dr that was in a left hand turn lane. I stuck my arm out the window as I passed, checked my mirror and could see driver's and passenger's hands up in the windshield.
