O2 sensors...

Are there 4 total? If so, are the 2 upstream sensors the same? Same with the downstream? Is it best to access from underneath or somehow from above? I picked up 1 Bosch upstream from Advanced Auto thinking there was only one but noticed there appeared to be 2. Hopefully I'm looking at the right thing, seemed like it was mounted just after the exhaust manifold. Thanks!

I'm working on my o2 sensors as well. Hope you have better luck. There are two under the throttle body, both up stream (this is going off the 02'ish models, don't know about the others but I presume the same with in the time frame.

Any way, both of those are upstream. The one towards the front is sensor 1. This one has a long pig tail, the other is short. The front o2 sensor replacement can also be for the down stream. The down stream is after the cat, by the tranny. They are very easy to get to. Do your self a favor and get the 02 socket. 22mm.

Don't need to jack up the jeep, just crawl under and look up above front drive shaft.

So wait, 2 up, 1 down for 3 total?

All three use the same sensor?

So are the two upstream the same sensor? Meaning, can I just buy 2 of the same sensor? The factory service manual is very vague and the pictures are pretty lame. From what I can gather, a 4.0 with 4 sensors is CA emission vehicle? Also in the photo it looks like the sensors are further down the exhaust not at the header. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong sensors?

From what I was told and experienced the two up are not the same. One has a 6" pig tail and is strictly up, the other, according to the inventory at the parts store, is up, but that same sensor can be used as down. It has a 1' pigtail.

Stupid app won't let me attach a photo. But on mine I only see 3 unless that 4th one is hiding.

Wow...I guess it did work. The 1st pick shows the 2 upstream. The 2nd pic shows the original o2 and the replacement for bank 1 sensor 1 which is the left sensor on that,1st pic. That is towards front of engine.

Hmmm, the one toward the front looks like it would have the shorter pig tail. Didn't you say the one towards the front had the longer tail? Is that first picture from underneath or above looking down? I'm kinda confused...Thanks...

Can you take a pic? I just followed my exhaust line and can't find any mor3

Both of those were taken from the underside by left front tire/front drive shaft.

OK, I've found all of mine now I think. The 2 ups must be the ones directly below the throttle body. The other 2 are just past the cats(are there 2?) . The upstream sensors, which are the ones I want to replace, look like they have the same length of wires in my car. Also, I keep hearing about using a 22mm socket but how do you get a socket over the wiring assembly? Looks like you'd need to use a box wrench....

Rent or buy the o2 socket from your local parts store. Its well worth it.

And yes, there srw the mini cats and then another further down the line.

As far as the pig tails go, that one pic that shows both you can see where the right sided one plugs in, 6". the left, that pigtail goes under the tb then up front and connects by the power steering pulley, 1'

What year is your jeep?

Ahhh, I see my confusion. You said 1' and I thought you said 1". Now it makes sense. Thanks!
