Odd heater issue.

So I noticed something during the winter/early spring when I was offroading, and wondering if anyone had ever seen this or had any ideas what it might be. After I had been driving/offroading for a while, one of the times I'd turn on the heat, and no matter what it was turned to it came out as window defroster setting. I have a tendency to turn the heat on and off when the top is down and it's a bit more chilly depending on how fast I'm going (and related:how cold the front is). Everytime this happened I would try turning it on and off and fiddling with how strong it was blowing and eventually it would start working correctly. Any ideas?

Start looking for a vacuum leak. The controller that operates where the air comes out is vacuum actuated. It has a fail safe to defrost.

Jeeps are like Lego: Make it any way you want it, break it and start over again.

I had a similar issue with mine this winter, heat would only work as defrost. Turns out my knob was cracked and the switch was trapped in between settings. Pull the knob off and check the back and see if its cracked. If it is, it's a $6 part, worth checking.

Not to hijack but instead of creating a new post, i too have a heating issue. Mine only works on the full blast setting. The first 3 settings for how strong it is dont work. Only the 4th and strongest setting works. Im guessing a blown fuse? Idk.. Not terribly worried since its warming up but a good time to fix for the winter haha
