Odd sound from the rear end

I'm new to the forum but not new to Jeeps. This is my third. I have a 99 TJ with a 4" suspension lift and 33x12.50 tires. Almost every time I start to move, there is a sound coming from the rear end of the Jeep. It sounds almost like the axle is twisting. Has anyone else had this problem? Once I get moving it stops. (At least I stop hearing it) It also is very noticeable when I'm turning slow. Had a mechanic look at it a couple of years ago when I had the tranny replaced but they didn't know what it was either. I actually had the same sound in my 85 CJ 7 but sold it before I messed with it.

What rear axle do you have? Is it open? What kind if noise?

Mine did that until I changed the control arm bushings. You might check them. I could get them to squeak if I rocked it side to side. I got someone to rock it while I got under and tracked down the problem. While it's rocking take a look at control arms, the sway bar connects and the rear track bar ends too. I have a 99 and have changed them all a few times so you maybe due. Hopefully it will not be the axle.
