odd steering problem

here is what i got

97 TJ with D30 up front with a lockrite

went wheeling sunday..wheeled for about 5-6 hours then all of a sudden i was not able to turn the steering wheel more than 1/4 of a turn to either direction when in 4wd

1 of the guys thought it was the steering stabilizer bar..
we removed that and still nothing..

u could hear the pump workn but the steering would not go

put it in 2wd and was able to turn...
drove back to camp (bout 8 minutes on gravel road) and when we got to the parking lot i put it back in 4wd lo and was able to turn again??

is this a lockrite malfunction issue

thanks guys

I would pull the diff cover and check everything out. Maybe a spring or pin broke and temporally bound the locker.

i pulled the cover and didn't notice anything broken or out of place
no metal shavings in the oil

went for another trail ride sunday..
steering seemed fine then after bout 2 hours on a nice trail with alot of turns and rocks the steering became tight..

i have twin sticks so i was able to disengage the front and just run in Rear Drive.. then when needed i would lock in the front.. Steering seemed to be fine doing this..

is this just the fluid getting 2 hot and causing a problem
