Question OEM Soft Top vs. Bestop Supertop or Sunrider

Got a 2003 Ruby with a hard top which I easily remove and replace using a hoist in my garage. Thinking about a soft top for this summer. I've seen a few threads about this, some dating back to 2005. What's the latest advice though?

If price weren't a factor, and the whole "flip top" not being important either way, which is the recommended way to go? Mopar OEM, Bestop Supertop, Sunrider, or other brand?

-Quality parts and material (most important)
-Easiest and fastest to take down and put back up (very important)
-Compatible with the Bestop two-piece soft doors (already have them, important)
-Least drilling of new holes (somewhat important)
-Least noise (least important)

Thanks in advance!

Bestop manufactured the oem top for your jeep. Remember that you get what you pay for. I love my Mopar (Bestop) Sunrider top. It's nice to be able to throw the topback when it's nice out, but not nice enough to remove the top competely.

Hmm, I feel like I've seen this already...

OEM Soft Top vs. Bestop Supertop or Sunrider - JeepForum.com

I'll say it again, go with the new Supertop NX, comes with everything you need to run a soft top from a hardtop. Uses all factory style hardware. And as said above, Bestop makes the factory tops.

- Quality parts and material (most important)

The OEM (or as mentioned above Supertop NX) is the best. Do not confuse the Older Supertop with the new one. Totally different

-Easiest and fastest to take down and put back up (very important)

The two mentioned (OEM, NX) above are the only ones that are easly taken down.

-Compatible with the Bestop two-piece soft doors (already have them, important)

-Least drilling of new holes (somewhat important)

There is no drilling for the OEM/NX

-Least noise (least important)

OEM/NX sailcloth

OEM vs BESTOP for new unlimited

Read all of your great info on OEM vs Bestop but have a couple of questions specific to my needs and situation. I'm trying to make a decision and would appreciate your opinion. I am ordering a new unlimited. I am less concerned about cost and want a softop that is both easy to use and quiet. Some WranglerForum comments indicate the Bestop is more diificult to use than OEM. On the other hand I have heard that Bestop uses heavier "sail" material than what is used in the OEM and as a result is 50% quieter. Chrysler seems to be changing Jeep so much so fast i don't know whether what I hear is based on comparisions between older or new models. My aftermarket sales person does not know how Bestop compares to the 2012 OEM softop and my Chrysler rep does not know anything about aftermarket. Input appreciated.

I was at the 4wheel parts show in Orlando a few weeks ago and went with the intention of purchasing a new supertop NX....then......after speaking to the rep there and looking at the material options and the differences in the "sailcloth" they offer, I found out that although they say the new nx is the same as the oem top it is not. First the nx top is only 18 oz material and the only way to get the "factory diamond sailcloth" in the "factory weight" of 30 oz is to order the top and frame separately which, although it's available, the cost is higher than the "kit" MSRP of $719.00 because if ordered separately the door surrounds, front windshield mount and tailgate rail would also have to be purchased separately. Also, If you can believe it, the rep wasn't sure if you could get the fold back feature on the supertop nx even though it was stated as such in the current 4 wheel parts catalog. Their excuse was that the catalog was not theirs so 4 wheel parts "may" not be correct?????? The other bad thing is that they supposedly are not able to keep up with orders and so even if you go to the store to purchase one you probably won't get it for 6-8 weeks. Just my experience.

- This is the TJ 97-06 forum. You want the JK 07+ forum

- Bestop makes all the OEM tops and uses the same fabric. Until recently Bestop could not sell tops like they made for Chrysler. They can now and that is what the newer TJ Supertop NX is. I do not know much about the JK Bestop tops.

Thanks for the response. I called Bestop and they indicated their SuperTopNX black diamond is the same as the OEM top and to go that route.

I just bought that exact soft top from JC Whitney. I got a great deal with coupon I received from them via email. My top is seven years old so I figured it is a good time to replace it. It still is in decent shape and doesn't leak and I figure I can sell it to help defray the cost of the new NX soft top. I like the sunrider option of the NX top.
