Hello everyone, I am new at the Maryland area and don't know much about places to go off road ? Have been in a few but want to explore more.

Where to go?

Welcome.

AFAIK, The only legal place in the entire state is Assatique island by ocean city. And you have to buy a special permit. The closest places to the north is Rauch Creek Off Road Park in PA. To your south there are a few places in Va such as George Washington National Park off the 81, Shoe Creek near Charlottesville, or the flagpole off the 81.

Check out Big Rubbers 4x4 club in Windber, PA (near Johnstown). They have some land in that area.
They have an event coming up...

What part of MD? Near NAS Pax River there's a few ok spots but it's mostly for getting muddy.

Assatique island is a great spot and you can get a seasonal permit. Don't know how far from NJ you are but there are the Pine Barrens in South Jersey which is legal and free to registered vehicles. Nice place to get mentally lost for a day.
