Oil Pressure

Drove the TJ today for about 65 miles, last stop before going home i grabbed some food for the family, when i started the Jeep it read, "check gauges", noticed i had almost no oil pressure, gave it a little gas it shot right up, on the way home @ two different stop signs it would drop real low, under 20 on the gauge. After it sat about an hour i went outside to try it again and everything was normal. This happen to anyone? Its a 98 2.5, 5 speed. thanks guys in advance

Is the oil level low and when was the last time it was changed?

The lower the level, the lower the pressure and same holds true for old, dirty, worn out oil, although I've never seen my Jeep drop that low.

Definitely keep an eye on it!

Oil Pressure

My advice would be to check your oil pressure sending unit.

I have the exact same wrangler and I've been meaning to post about this. When I'm driving the oil pressure is a little above 40 but when I idle (every time) it drops to about 20, not so low as to trip the check gauges light, but it drops none the less. Wasn't sure if this was normal or not. Oil is perfect (new and filled). I'll check the sending unit but I was curious if the drop in oil pressure because of idle was normal, it would make some sense right??

I checked the manual, because of the needle moving around - says may go from 20-65 in normal driving. I see 25-ish warmed up and idling, 55-ish when the revs are up before a shift. Clean oil (Mobil 1), and I check it every Sunday (part of my religious observance - play with the jeep, go to the shooting range, thank God I have a good life). Seems to move around a lot more since I switched to synthetic - might go back to dino on the next oil change.

OP seems to have a problem that requires immediate attention, imo.

The sending units suck. On my 3rd one. I finally connected a manual gauge it never drops below 20 psi at idle but the dash still check gauges. Cheap piece of mind.
