Unhappy Oil PSI Issues

My 06 Rubicon has developed a "Lazy" oil psi gauge. On inital start up it seems to lag before coming up, then it goes just past half way and stays, no matter what the RPM is. I suspected the sensor/switch. replaced it with no change. I grounded the purple wire to the sensor expecting the gauge to max out, it didn't. I have not put a mechanical gauge on it yet.

Get a mechanical gauge on it quick and are you using fram oil filters? If so try changing to wix.

I have a mechanical guage threaded into a tee between the block and sending unit. When I start my jeep, there is a split second delay from when the engine first starts to the needle moving on the mechanical one. The dash guage always has had a delay, even if I shut it off and restart instantly, so the dash guage is not exactly speedy in transmitting information. Oil pressure delay to the mechanical guage seems a little worse when it is below freezing. I tried putting a Mobil1 filter on it and there was zero change. The whole issue is probably not ever going to be a problem, but since I have tried two different filters and they have both responed exactly the same as a PH16 Fram. I dont see the point in different filters. I have always run a conventional 10w-30.
However, Accusump is a manufacturer of oil accumulators which have more roots in racing, but I feel has excellent possibilities off road as well. I do not like hearing lifters tick on a freezing morning startup, even if it is only for half a second. A 12 volt dc solenoid valve rated for high temps and oil with a home made bottle of some sort mounted vertically would act as a decent accumulator, much the same way as water hammers function in a house. Just make sure the line feeding it is restricted in some way so the oil pump fills it back up slowly, ensuring oil to the engine first. That is my plan to build one sometime this summer before it gets cold again. If I procrastinate too long, I will probably just buy one.

Thanks for the info. I run factory MOPAR filters and Mobil 1 Synthetic. I don't have any ticking lifters. That tells me I have some oil pressure. I am installing a mecanical gauge this weekend, mainly for piece of mind.

Newer TJ oil pressure gauges were reprogrammed so as long as the true oil pressure is okay, the pointer will stay at mid-scale no matter what. Too many newbies who don't know much about their engines were complaining their oil pressure was going up & down.

When you have a choice, buy American.
