oil question

i bought a jeep from my dads friend as my first car. i then realized that i didnt ask when the last time he replaced the oil in it. should i just go ahead and change it to make sure? or is there a way to check?

You can simply pull the dipstick and with good light, look at the color of the oil that should be a clear golden color if it's clean. But since the previous owner can't remember when he last changed it, that's a clear sign that it is overdue for six quarts of fresh 10W-30 and a new oil filter.

x2-only about $30-premium oil and filter. Well worth it.

Change it! Changing oil is like left overs in the fridge. If you have to wonder if its still good, throw it away. Changing your Jeep's oil is the easiest and most important maintence on your Jeep. Invest in the $10 filter wrench cap that fits on the back of the filter. It will safe you time
