Old and really old 2.5 I-4 engines

Hello, I have a tired '97 TJ with a 2.5l I-4. A guy has a rebuilt 2.5l I-4 from an '85 CJ-7 for sale locally(cheap). My question is, how much work is there to make the older 2.5 work in the '97 TJ. I know mine has multiport FI, but it is injected into the intake manifold, so that seems easy to change. Is there anything else that would make it too complicated??
Thanks for your help!!

I want to know also. How far can you go back for interchangeability. Saw 91-2001, is it older ?
