So I've been able to find OME springs on Craigslist for pretty cheap. I've always heard OME is the best; however, I know Bilstein shocks are pretty great too. I can get Bilstein 5100s for more than $100 less than a set of OMEs. I want to know what y'all think, should I get the OMEs since they are tuned for these springs or will I have just as good of a ride with Bilsteins?
OME, you'll be glad you did.
Depending on where you buy the OME products you get a warranty.
Does CL? If your buying used OK but new it maybe worth the cost difference JMO.
The springs came from Craigslist. Definitely buying new shocks. I can get new Bilstein 5100s for $309 with sales tax paid for. New OME shocks are $108 a piece not including sales tax.
Yeah, I read it wrong. You might want to consider the new Rancho RS5000X. They're getting great reviews from some very hard core Jeepers, and they cost less.
Which OME springs? They are available in wide variety of rates and lengths, all of which will provide different ride heights depending on the weight of your Jeep.
Most of the variations in ride quality will come from your shocks and tire pressure, not necessarily the springs. Unless you somehow happen to be comparing really stiff to really soft rates for the ride height you are after.
With regard to shocks, my old OME N66/N67 Nitrochargers are very nice and are what most people are referring to when talking about when discussing OME shocks, but they are no longer available. The new Sports are said to be much stiffer.
I can vouch for OME's as well. Had them with the 31's and loved them so much I got the long travel when I went to 35's. Super happy with them and they are well worth the $$. Had Bilsteins on our JK once and they had way too much fade in them when they heated up.
I've found what I think are the old nitrocharger shocks that OME used to pair with their springs for sale, new. I'm looking for a more comfortable ride and enough height to fit 33s. I don't want to spend the money and still cringe every time I drive over a bump in the road. OME, Bilstein 5100 or Rancho rs5000x?
Like myself and everyone else has said, just get the OME's. You won't regret it. There's a reason everyone loves them, myself included. Have them on my TJ currently and ran the old nitrochargers on my XJ. They are MONEY!
I have the newer style Nitrochargers. I can't compare them to the older ones, but the newer ones still make for a more pleasant ride on city streets, than the Bilstein shocks do.
A nice thing about both the old and new ome shocks is that their compressed lengths are shorter and overall travels are longer than other shocks in their size category.
Thanks for all the comments. I'll be going with OMEs, just need to decide old or new. Probably going with the old ones.
