on board air compressor

I've heard a lot of talk about people having on board air compressors on their Jeeps for airing down/up and for running air tools. I'm interested in having this for my rig as well and i was just curious as to what type of compressor you have on board and where do you have it mounted/stored? Pics are appreciated.

Airing up is fine. But I've never felt a need to run air tools, but it will do it. I carry an electric impact instead - but rarely use it. On long hrd trails where I expect someone will break something that needs welding, I also carry a 4.5 electric grinder and an inverter.

Here's my Sanden on my Rubi, the same type compressor Jeep uses for ac. I did not touch my ac compressor - I like the ac.

I made my own mounts from 1/2" angle, and it's driven by a short serp belt from a dual pulley on the alternator. Kilby has the pulleys.

Here's a recent thread on the topic. I suggest you read it all, but my setup is illustrated at post #42.

I'm considering getting the VIAIR system (the constant duty one) but I'm concerned about leaving it out in the elements as it will have no protection against weather. Any one have any issues with them rusting? not performing after getting rained on?

The VIAIR compressors pretty well sealed up, but just make sure to remote mount the intake filter to a dry place. The compressors come with the hardware and air line to do so.
