Opinions on potential buy.

I'm in the market for a new car. I want to go with a wrangler. My budget is around 10k to 15k.
Found one for 13k, '04, 80,000 miles, 4 cylinder, auto. What do you guys think?

Seems kind of pricey for a plain jane 4 banger.

You will get the most out your money if you buy from a private party. Dealers #$%& you! And that pricetag is a prime example.

I would say that is high as well. You might do some research and find out for sure what you really want, it will help you make your search more focused. I bought a 2006 Wrangler X for 15,400 last year. If I had to do it over again I would have searched longer and bought a Rubicon or an Unlimited (or a Rubicon Unlimited ;-) ). That's hindsight...which is why I'm sharing that with you. Best of luck by the way, Jeeping is so much fun!

If you are going to spend the money, get a 6 cylinder.

I realize the one you are looking at is a little newer than mine...but mine was a 1999 TJ, 4.0L 6 cylinder, with 80k, and it was 10,500 from a dealer.

Too high. Mine is a year newer, 30k LESS miles than that one, 6cyl auto, new 32 inch tires and in excellent shape in and out and I got it for within your budget from a private party.

This is the second jeep I've purchased off craigslist. You will go through a lot of jeeps described as "excellent" but when you get there they look like crap. But eventually you can find a good one.

I test drove a 4cyl auto and decided I wanted a 6 cyl but that is up to you.

I have a 4banger manual with 33's on it. I am looking for a unlimited ruby right now. If you want to go faster than 60 with a tail wind get a 6cyl. If you are going to upgrade your tires than the 4cyl is not enough. Especially an automatic. What gears are in it?

That engine in the pic is a straight 6. But for 15k you can find a decent TJ rubi if you look hard enough.

i bought my 04" pretty much identical to that one with same mileage only difference is that it was a stick for 9k. i would HIGHLY advise against the 4 banger i would do anything for the 4.0.

Yeah, like he said, the pic is a 4.0L. So, is that pic not of the Jeep you're looking at?

That's probably a decent price for a 4.0L Sport with hard top and doors. If that's what they're asking though, they would probably take less, looks like it could use tires, I'd try to get them to knock $1000 off for that.
