Ordered: JCR Stinger Front Bumper

SWB Wrangler Front Stubby Stinger Winch Bumper
I was on a pretty tight budget and looking for a new front bumper.
It came down to JCR or Smittybuilt stingers(I know, I know)
I have heard mixed reviews on the Smittybuilt, a lot of people bash it because it's made in China, and has quality control issues.
So I splurged on the JCR stinger, and ended up spending the extra few bucks for the power steering skid, D-Ring shackles, and the light bracket for the fairlead.

Bumper: $370
Light Mount:$24.95
Steering Box Skid: $45
D-Rings(pair): $20
Shipping:$73
After the forum discount, it came out to a total of $500.75
It was more than I was looking to spend, but I am proud to say I bought american made, quality products.

I know it will come unfinished, so I will probably rattle can it with some bumper coating or something. Not really looking to powder coat because it's just going to get beat up anyways. Any thoughts?

I placed the order on 05/16, and it hasn't shipped yet. So, I'm just waiting at this point. I'm starting to get kind of agitated, it's been 15 days.

I will post pictures and everything of the install when it (finally) comes in.

In the mean time, does anyone have any experience with this bumper or similar JCR products?

You made the right choice. I have the sliders and I'm very happy with them. I used a rustoleum primer and rustoleum hammered paint. I know I'm going to bang them up and the hammered paint is great for touch ups.
I also have a prerunner front bumper sitting in my dining room. No time lately to paint it.
It took 2 weeks before they called me and said it was ready for pick-up. Luckily I only live 80mi from them.

First, thanks for your order!

Second we operate on a 10-13 business day window to complete orders. We try to stay well ahead of the industry standard of about a month.

With the holiday I think we are at 9 days on your order right now. We sometimes beat this estimate, but we have some new equipment here to learn/calibrate so we are right at that estimate window now.

Have you fixed the issue with square receiver tube not fitting for lack of room between the bumper and tub. It would be nice if you had an option for the receiver to stick out a little further instead of flush. Thanks!

Excellent choice for a bumper. I have a (older style) JCR front bumper that I have beat on pretty good for 9 years now. Finally peeled back some of the tube last week where it protects the fenders...

I'm planning on getting rid of it next spring and getting one of the Dagger series they recently released.

Not only are they local to me, but they do some very nice fab work and stand by what they build.

They do look very sharp! And I have read nothing but great reviews on the quality. Well worth the extra few bucks IMO

+1 or make flush verse the receiver sticking out 2 inches an option. I don't know how many times I've had your bumper/tire carrier in the shopping cart all optioned up and not pulled the trigger. I have a hard time accepting that I'd need to cut my bike rack, cargo carrier, and hitch to make it work.

Your gas can set up and the ability to adjust the wheel to differing heights is sweet.

Same here! The hitch problem is a deal killer for me.

It's not a "problem" it's a design choice. We don't like receiver hitches sticking out of our products, it's been part of our designs for a long time. Yes we understand that it makes it harder to install a pin, and somewhat a pain to modify accessories. We run our products on shop Jeeps that deliver us to MTB trails, pull trailers and campers, etc... So we are doing the same switching around that everyone has too.

Why not make a longer receiver hitch an option or leave it pre-cut for one to be welded in? Thanks!

Not a deal breaker for me, however, maybe yall could add an adapter that you sell on your site that's an option to add to the cart, similar to the d-rings or light brackets when buying a front bumper. You keep the same look, and it's more convenient which leads to more purchases.

Just found out it shipped yesterday. UPS says it should be here by monday! Will post more when it arrives

I've been keeping myself busy in the mean time by changing the Manual trangsmission fluid and soaking the current front bumper bolts in PB blaster. Hopefully I won't have any trouble getting them off.

I am a newbie. What is the purpose of the stinger? Is it just to wrap a bubba rope around??

Some people like them because of looks, but their "purpose"is to either prevent you from tipping forward (Shown below). Also in a roll over, it can protect the hoodline (radiator, etc).

I got mine not only because I like the look, but I also like the protection it offers.

And I got JCR's in particular because (no particular order):
a)Made in the US
b)Integrated Winch plate
c)I like the extra options they make for it (fairlead light brackets, etc)
d)A lot of people say good things about the durability, quality and solid welding that JCR does.

Let me first start by saying:
Overall, I am Impressed by the solid construction of the bumper. The welds are all perfect, everything looks good.

I hit it with a couple of cans of black rustoleum bedliner and that gives it a nice texture of very fine-grained sandpaper. 2 cans ended up getting me 2 very heavy coats.

After painting, I took the stock bumper off, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The existing Torx screws just came right out with a little PB blaster and elbow grease. However, when I went to put the new bumper on, it looked like the mounting tabs on the bumper were bent. Because of this, it didn't fit. I ended up sledging the metal mounting tab (where the top bolt goes in) for about 20 minutes. Finally, after getting everything straightened out, it fit like a charm.

The KC lights were mounted on the stock bumper, so I bought the fairlead mount for them (see original post). Come to find out, that the fairlead ($50) isn't included. So I just ordered that yesterday. For now, the mount is ziptied to the hole where the fairlead should go. The lights are actually a little bit too big for the space they are allotted to fit in, so I can't point/aim them too well. But for now, it will have to do.

Tomorrow I will be attaching a Smittybilt 8000 pound X20 winch. It's supposed to be amphibious, and I found it on Craigslist for $300. Which is the price (w/o tax) for an XRC 8k winch. I'm pretty excited about it.

This weekend, I will be headed to Marble Falls, TX to go wheeling at Hidden Falls. I've been once before, and I'm absolutely stoked to go again. Maybe I will even get to use my winch for the first time
