Out side door handle doesnt work, away to fix?

Hello guys and gals. On my 98 tj the driver side out door handle is giving mr trouble. It just flops and keeps coming un attached inside. I remove the inner door panel to find the rod off. I placed it back on. The door worked fine for 5 or 6 opening then came off again. I can keep doing this but not sure how long. Right no I just leave my inner panel off so I can keep popping it back on. Is there a better way to fix this? Will take a few pics in the am.

Thanks
Doug

It sounds like the clip may be slightly broken. You will probably need to replace the clip, but should be a cheap and easy fix.

I used a twist tie to secure the rod on mine years ago and it has not come off since.
