Overhead CB/Radio Console Decision

Hi everyone, I have a 2000 TJ, and I'm deciding between the Tuffy single overhead console and the Arizona Rocky Road overhead console for CB.

Does anyone have any good pictures of any of these, and any good advise, problems with either or good ratings. I know the ARR is much cheaper, but not sure how clean it will look compared to the Tuffy.

I have a Cobra nightwatch with weather CB and I want to make sure it'll fit in the Tuffy, one guy said it would but that the door won't latch shut. Anyone else have any advise. My CB isn't a small one like the Uniden ones. Thanks for the help in advance!

I dunno but those corners on Tuffy's drop-down CB radio holder looks downright dangerous. I like Tuffy and have used a lot of their products but I just don't like their overhead console design.

That said, I use the Arizona product and like it because it's a good solid simple design. And even though mine is supporting the weight of two radios, it is still solid with zero wiggle/bounce.

Cool, thanks for the pic, what year is your jeep and can you possibly post a good shot of how it connects to the frame/rollbar on the side, there's a lot of pics on the web and they all seem to be different.

thanks

Jim

The Arizona kit mounts the same for all year TJs, it mounts under the forward-most bolt that holds the door surround to the rollbar. Or if you don't have the door surround, they give you the bolts that will hold it to the rollbar.

Anyone have the Tuffy SINGLE overhead? Does it rattle against the roof? Is it easy to install with factory sound bar?

thanks

How far does that bar stick out from the windshield?

I put mine above roll bar. Ran wires inside roll bar. Altered factory mount to place radio lower to bar. Used 2 stainless steel hose clamps to hold it to bar. Works perfect for me and is totally out of the way

I took a piece of 1/2 angle and welded flat pieces for the cb frame and added sheet metal for some switches and mounted it to the rollbar

If you are tall in size then go with the Arizona rack. If you are not tall then go with the Tuffy console. I'm 6'1" and have hit my head on the overhead console.

I have the Tuffy overhead console with the cobra 29 nightwatch with weather. It does fit but it will be tight. I have a pic with my old cobra 29 nightwatch. I'll take a pic with the current radio tomorrow.

It does not rattle, and installs just fine with the sound bar. It would definitely have helped if I hadn't done it by myself, and if I'd had the roof off, though. And all the corners I've noticed are rounded, plus I'm short so I'm not too worried about hurting myself on it

Is that door able to swing shut or do the knobs stick out too far? The specs on Tuffy's site say it's about 10 inches deep, I thought maybe using a right angle connector to the coax would cut down on some space maybe.

thanks for the pic

Jim

NOT my jeep in this picture, but I'm using same mount in same location, AND using same coax cable.

I went with 4' Firestik with tunable tip, the Firestix premade 9' coax, and Firestik Hood mount. They call it a hood mount, but it actually bolts to fender. All as seen in this picture.

The cable enters engine compartment at rear of fender(if you look close you will see gap in vertical fender flange at back of fender top)

I like the Firestik cable cause it has the ring and cable doesn't protrude below antenna where it might get snagged. They call it their FireRing cable.

When you had your old Cobra 29 in there, did you need to file it down to fit it, and was the door able to close all the way?

thanks again, decisions, decisions

also i was going to mount mine on my bumper, but thought it could get snagged. decided to drill into the tailgate. im much happier i chose to go with my current set up instead of the bumper

I went with the rack from "cbrack.com". I like it alot, wires run up in between the mount the down the roll bar. Prior, they were mounted in the center console. Ran the wires through the bottom.

That's an awesome idea. How is it held up? With hose clamps?

Do you have any problem with heat? For the bottom radio did you just drill into the housing to the radio above it?

Those are all some nice mounts. Can I ask why you would want two CB's in one vehicle. Is it for two channels at once, or maybe passenger use?

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. The door does close. There is enough room in the back for radio to be pushed back and the cable and power cord doesn't get crushed. I'll try and post some pics tomorrow.
