overpriced?

2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X For Sale In Sioux City IA - KNOEPFLER CHEVROLET#

is this reasonable I was thinking closer to 12k would be better. looks pretty clean. I did a vin search and that said it had 3.73 from factory. requested a build sheet of upgrades. nice looking and kind of close to me.

also has d35 rear and d30 front diffs from the vin search sheet.

It doesn't appear to me that is an "Unlimited", unlimited's have a longer wheel base. Also all unlimited's came with D44 I believe.

In the description it says it has a transmission. That's always a good thing I suppose. Also says it has Goodyear tires then shows pictures of Kumho tires. Some of the pictures are automatic transmission shifter and some of the pictures are manual shifter. The pictures look like a nice clean Jeep. Would be interesting to see what it looks like if you actually go look at it.

In fall of 2012 I bought a 2006 model X, 4.0 automatic with 74,000 miles, Warn front bumper and Badlands winch for $10,500. Their list price seems high but is probably negotiable.

the build sheet of vin sheet says as an option "short wheel base"??? but yes I was questioning that as well esp without the D44

lol... yeah the last few photos are 'stock image jeep' photos- and I think the description must be a jeep generic.

I think closer to 10 than 15k would be fair for this. it is a real nice looking jeep. appears to be clean. it is an auto I did verify that. they are trying to get me a build sheet. I don't know much about the jeep suspension mods so I don't want to buy something that wasn't done right.

Agree with the rest...It's not an unlimited, it has an auto transmission (according to the video) there is a picture of a 5 speed in the "stock" photos, Looks like a cheap Skyjacker lift.....way too many $$'s

I purchased my 2006 SE 4cyl with 45000 miles for $12,500 a year and a half ago so I think 14.5K is a bit much

If it was actually an unlimited would be more fair.

$14,500? What was the original MSRP? Wasn't this like $18k-$19k new 10 years ago? Seems like this should be closer to $9k-$10k?

Just bought my 06 TJ "SE" 4 cyl last week for $11,890 so yeah. I agree. Make them an offer and if you're financing, get the vin and miles and have approval before you get there and say "X amount of money is what I'm paying out the door" and they'll probably be fine with that. That's what I did and they wanted over $13,000 on their list price.

Wow. That really gives me a good feeling about what my 06 SE could be worth.... If there selling for over 11,000 and I only paid 16,000 new. That's pretty darn good

Jeeps are great at holding their value. Not a bad investment. Keep in mind, mine is all stock with the exception of 30" A/T tires instead of the stock 215/75R15 (I'm assuming this was the stock size? It's the size of the spare on the back)

Edit: Id assume modifications would increase value over what I paid.

I am having a hard time finding anything 97-04 with less than 100k miles for less than $12-13k. that is for a plain jane stock jeep x or sport. starting to think my jeep wish may not happen.

I would sell my 2006 SE with 65K for $10K. She's yellow, no accidents, stock except 31" tires with @50% tread. I'd be sad and might cry a little, but I'd do it.

IDK how the market is there but a Wrangler in AZ is worth more then gold! I see wranglers priced like that all the time here. It took me 2 months of searching before I bought mine last Friday. I ended up getting it off craigslist. Decently priced ones pop up from time to time but they sell quick.

it's a dealer, they always start off with a high jumping off point price-wise....the dealer I got my excellent condition all-stock one-owner '02 Sahara from had it listed at $16,000 but I only paid $13,500 without much effort in the negotiations (NADA/KBB was $13,500).

looks like a nice TJ...I'd go in with a lower offer say around $11k. good luck.

As a car dealer, let me clear you up on a few things. What you are willing to pay "out the door" and what the dealer will accept are 2 different things. Alot depends on what they are into it for, in other words what they had to pay to get the deal done. Then there is the hidden issues from "nothing wrong with it at all dude" that the dealer now has to fix to sell it. Tires, oil change, brakes, battery etc.
I have said it before (numerous how much it is worth threads) but bears repeating I guess. It is worth what YOU are willing to pay for it. You will hear all day long what a killer deal someone else got. Lots of factors come into play they never mention like tires and brakes had to be replaced, frame "a little" rusty, interior shredded.....on and on. If you like the jeep and it fits your budget and fits the kbb numbers, go for it. Dont just settle however, look around, dont get in a hurry, but if you find a good deal or a very clean well maintained unit, be ready to pull the trigger. Believe me, if you dont, there is someone else ready.
Good luck

the market here is the same way. the one I looked at in this thread I am going to pass on. I got some good advice on the lift and other build items and I don't think they are the best.

have found a couple more in the area I am going to look at. I have passed on a couple that were way over priced. another I went to buy with cash and it was an hour away. by the time I got there it had been sold.

It was a very well maintained, low mileage unit. I love my Jeep and I got the deal done with nothing down for $233 / month. There's no rust and the CARFAX report showed one owner who was a middle-aged female.

Ive worked at dealers myself, but I worked in the collision repair section of a larger GM dealership.

My comments had nothing to do with your jeep in particular. I was addressing the "what you would tell them" comment. Sounds like you got a good deal and if you feel it is a good deal, then it is. These threads are a recurring theme. "what is this worth?" Doesnt matter what someone else paid in a different area of the country was my point. Lots of factors go into it. Sorry for the confusion.
Main point was, the best deal is one the buyer is happy with. Someone somewhere always can top your deal. ALWAYS lol (at least on an internet forum)

Oh no, I understood what you were saying. I was only adding to my previous comment in a way.

And you're definitely right. Every corner lot dealer I stopped at regarding their Jeep was more than willing to work on the price (which tells me they had nowhere near the asking price in the Jeep itself) so I was just trying to say never settle for the sticker price.

Happy trails!

I'm in Connecticut where are you? I was sorta serious, but I'm not a motivated Seller. I could take some pictures and I would list every little thing I know of.

Cosmetically it has a few small scratches, and the drivers seat vinyl has a crack, and a small tear on the soft top that I have Gorilla tape patching it. I have an aftermarket radio and speakers, but still have the stock radio (I got rid of the orig speakers). The fender flairs were fading so they have been painted with Bed liner (looks nice) and I have rubber tiles along the rocker panels to keep my boots from leaving streaks on the paint when I get in/out (they peel right off if you don't like them)

Mechanically she's fine now. I had some issues with the TPS and the plugs and wires have been replaced. (You can search my posts in my WF profile). I treated the frame last year with rust inhibitor because of the new salt that's used in CT can do a number if left alone. There is no rust issue, I was being proactive. She's only ever seen Full Synthetic oil and its changed every 3-5K miles. And I've only ever been off road twice and never had the motor above 4500 RPM. Brakes and rotors were done by me last fall with Wagner Thermoquiet. My next work this year was going to be shocks and either new springs or a small BB lift to get another 2" and level it out some more.

N/P. I'd be in the Chicago area sometime in June, but I wasn't planning on driving the Jeep there. I love the Dakotas, nice country up over there.

Will keep that in mind. Nice country most of the time. this winter has been brutally cold. thank goodness not a lot of snow. many days with sustained wind over 35 gusts up to 60.

was hoping getting a jeep would bring spring around a bit sooner!!! lol
