P0320 Enlighten me

So I went wheeling yesterday and afterward the jeep (02 Wrangler 4.0 I6) just didn't seem to be running right. I would give it gas after being stopped at a red light and it wouldn't really go anywhere. So I checked the trans fluid, all fine. Got almost all the way home and it just shut off on me. Check engine light came on. It started right back up no problem. I pulled over and pulled the code P0320. I looked it up and got two things. "No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking" and "ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit malfunction." Can anyone enlighten me as to exactly what this means and what can be done to fix the issue? Thanks in advance.

Crank sensor is going south on you.

Did you by chance dunk your jeep in some deep water?

Sounds like if you did you got the CPS wet and possibly some of the other components under the hood.

I'd replace the CPS and go from there.

Ditto, and from what I read up here, it would be wise to get it from dealer

Ok thanks again guys. And yeah i did dunk it a bit lol. We've had a lot of rain the past few days and most the holes I hit were deeper than usual. Why should I get it from the dealer? Are CPS from parts stores known for bad quality?

From what I've read, some aftermarket cps sensors don't agree with the Jeeps computer

And they are aggravating enough to change, so you don't want to do it twice, but the hardest part for me was the connector, its up above the starter on mine

ok thanks for the advice, i'll probably buy it from the dealer then. I don't think i'll run into too much trouble with changing mine. The connector is in an easy enough spot to reach.
