P420 code

Ok I know it is the code saying my cat is done. Anyone else get this code in the past and what product did you purchase? I have been searching online and I havent been able to find a listing for my 2001. Every cat I see goes up to 2000. The only one I did find for my year was this beast for a tad under $500. Is this really what I need?

I just want to be able to pass emmisions in a few months and was hoping to get a basic high flow cat for <$100. Im just confused cause $500 is insane.

A friend installed a universal kat in hin 02 TJ some weeks ago and he passed the emission test with it. The cat cost only about 100$.

What you have pictured there is the down pipe and PRE-cats. The regular cat will bolt to the end of that down pipe before the muffler.

So any universal should work?

Most always being the regular cat. But yes it can be one of the precats. Only way to check which specific one it is is to have the dealer run it on there computer.

Also can be the O2 sensor throwing that code.

IMO it is not the 02 sensor. If that sensor doesnīt work itīs got itīs one code.

I don't believe it is either and yes it does have a separate code but can and has been known to throw a P0420 code in the past.

I would suggest it is the cat that is the issue.
