I used Automotive Touchup in the past but the white I got (which matched my vin#s code) really wasn't the same white - Could be a bad or old bottle, but that was my experience. Also the gloss touchup is WOAT. It's waaaay too thick to work with, and I used rattle can auto gloss coat instead that worked much better.
Good info, thanks. I'm not toooooo terribly concerned with paint not matching 100%. My theory is, it will match more than black. Besides, at some point I'd like to respray my hood and perhaps other parts of the Jeep too.
When you say the gloss touchup isn't any good, are you talking about the clear coat, or a different product?
Go to an auto paint store. That crap in a rattle can is just that... CRAP! You say you dont care if it matches, well there is nothing worse than paint that doesnt match. Id rather they stay black if i knew there was a chance i couldnt make them match. Of course you can always blend the tub and door to create an acceptable match.
I'm planning on doing as correctly as my budget can afford, but it includes compressor (7 CFM), paint gun, two part urethane paint, etc. All I meant was that if it was a slightly different shade it wouldn't upset me, but I'll probably still try to blend.
Get your paint code. If you don't know where to find it on your Jeep. It is on the front drivers side door jam. Any good Auto paint store can mix it up.
I ordered a quart of paint from expresspaint.com for my tube fenders. I'll let you know how it goes and if the paint matches okay tomorrow after i spray them!
I know what you mean, this is probably the last warmer weekend in NJ for the year which is in the high 60s . Had to switch my work schedual with someone else so I had the day off to get it done. Thanks!
