Painted dash before and after

I have been slowly and unintentionally taking my jeep to an all black and red combination and decided that the stock tan dash was just not working anymore. So I busted out my trusty screwdriver and started disassembling the dash. I cleaned all the pieces and then took Krylon Camoflauge Flat black and hit all the pieces. I then topped everything off with some clear, put it back together and here is my end product.

Before

After

Well the traffic isnt too bad. The main problem is that the speed limit is only about 60KPH which is only 37.5MPH on the main roads. The highway lets you stretch your legs up to about 80KPH which is still only 50MPH. Everyone normally drives at around 100kph and it feels like you are flying when in reality you are only doing 62MPH.

It took me about 8 hours total including time to run back to the store to get more paint and letting parts dry. I love throwing people off with the SW on the right side. The funny thing is that when I see the normal Jeeps I think the same thing. Funny how you get used to things.

I took apart all the fasteners to the Airbag cover just to discover all of the rivets underneath that still held the cover in place. I was able to lift it up high enough to spray the sides with it still attached. Then I let it dry and repeated the process for the clear coat. All of the attaching parts I just pulled off and painted it outside of the cab.

I was so gonna say that cons_table.

So what's the end product like? can it crack or peel or anything? I mean does it feel like it's supposed to be like that? It looks real sweet.

AAACK!
It looks like the paint ate away your doors! All that's left is a little frame

Looks great! I've never been a fan of 'The Tan'.

That looks awesome!

I agree with Bentol888---love it when folks step out and get creative, but don't know if I could push the spray can that first time. But I guess if you do, there is no going back after that!

Great cajones and a job well done.

Actually I used the New Krylon Invisibility spray on the doors. For some reason it didnt take to the tubes very well. Works wonders

So far so good. I did notice that the passenger OS handle on the dash still feels a bit tacky. It may be the type of material that they used when making it that did not accept the paint very well. I might just order a replacement handle in black. Everything else feels like it was meant to be that way. I have had it out in the sun now for the last week and there is no sign of it softening up. The clear coat really helped to ensure that the base coats stay in place.

Convict, I plan to do this very soon. How many cans of Black and how many of clear did you go through for the dash and doors? How many coats did you do?

Thanks
