Painted Fender Flares (finally)

After waiting weeks for time and weather to match up I finally painted my fender flares (well one side at least)

I masked off the driver side flares, and all four milk jugs that I have decided I am going to remove.

On a scale of 1-10 I thought it was going to be a 3 so I prepared for a five but caught a 7.

Yup! All coming next, half of the reason I only did one side was so I could know for sure I made a difference. But looking at the pictures I am amazed at the difference. I will do the passenger side, side steps, and bracket next warm sunny day I have time. Thanks for the quasi compliment of "not bad."

Or you could just cover it all up with some full corner armor no one would ever know

That is exactly what I was thinking while I was peeling the tape off. I would love to get a set, and a black fuel door.

Even thinking about removing my rear bumper all together so if anyone ever hits me in the rear, improved chances of getting a newer wrangler out of them lol

No, if I am lucky enough to get hit its all on them bumper or not. I took it off to have it painted and went out for a loaf of bread and they slammed me in the arse so hard they milked my prostate

I prepped and painted the passenger side flares, the step sides, the plastic bumpers on the front bumper and my rear bumper today. I used some goof off and took off all the over spray. It looks so much better!

I need to paint the spare tire holder, the third brake light, the license plate holder, the front bumper, and the mirrors. I also painted the top of my Firefighter plate so it does not have a stainless top with silver screws anymore.

Those flares are pretty easy to remove? I think you could have done a better job had you removed them?

All I did was wash them, and let them dry while clean. I used Krylon Fusion

No the flairs are not easy to remove. Are you telling me I could have done a better job, or asking me? You start by liberally applying your opinion, then end it with a question mark.

Thanks Ken I think they came out perfectly. They are still holding up well!

Np, I did mine years ago. I took them off though. Still look ok from a distance. The paint is a little chipped and worn from the tire spray. I wanna do them again soon

The Dura's are a load C. Less aggressive looking tire but the ride is a lot better.

And thanks

I put back half the screws that came out so it might be a little easier next time

Hey Austen....sorry if it came out the wrong way...I thought the flares were pretty easy to remove? Perhaps its not jut the 7 or 8 screws I seen...?

Your job is fine...I just thought that you could have avoided the overspray by removing the flares altogether...

Most of the screws are buried behind the wheel wells. It's really hard to get in there to hold the nuts from spinning.

Oh I see...in that case...its better to just mask and spray.

I have the bushwacker flares on mine...I bought it that way...I think they are easier to remove because of the exposed screw heads

Thankfully I took my time. The little bit of overspray was removed with Goof Off

it looks great, i ended up taking mine off(then put 6" ones on), but my paint was so chalky, i used that opportunity to wetsand and buff the whole jeep.

if i had to do it again, id probably take off my flares, to get all 6 pieces off it was about an hour. rears were most difficult on my 03.

clay bar or compound should take the over spray off.

license plate frame id take off if you plan on painting that, i also did my gas cap and mirrors with bedliner.

Looks great, but I don't know what everyone is saying the flares are hard to remove. I thought they were really easy. Yea, it's a little bit of a pain to get your hand in the rear part of the tub to hold the plastic nuts, but otherwise, it was a lot easier than taping everything off IMO. When I have to do it again, I'll remove the flares, it's easier to paint them fully then mess with painting them on a vehicle.
