I'm currently running on stock rims with 31's. I really like black rims, but don't have the cash for that right now. What are some thoughts about painting the stock rims black? I've heard it mentioned, but never seen any pics or ideas about the best ways to do it. If someone could throw up a pic if you have it or just give me some input that would be awesome.

Maybe I'm being hasting, but the weather is so nice right now and I really just want to work on my jeep (but without spending a ton of money).

nope...I'd be likely to think I might be easier, same price, to buy $40 a piece black steel wheels. Check out collins brothers Jeep web site

you can find black steelies for cheep online something like 48bucks a rim or so. otherwise go to the local home depot or whatever and get some TSP (trysodiam phosphate) thats not spelled right but you get the drift. put this on your rims to prep (after you wash them). put this on you do not have to rinse it off, let it dry. this will prep your wheels and de-gloss them so you paint. black hi-gloss spray will work just make sure you do it in an even format. good luck and do this at your own risk.

The paint will not stick properly on alluminum. If You don't prepare them well before paint it,specially if your wheels has a clear coat,I will sugest a light sand blasting or a fine sand paper.
Also for alluminum you need a special primer for alluminum so the paint will stick pretty well,I just say all this if you want it get done in the right way.
Thats why I said ,Black steel wheels will be cheaper. And if You go with bigger tires You will have a spare set of wheels.

I painted a set of the Sport steel rims for trailer use. I used coarse steel wool to prep, washed them, then used Rustoleum Appliance paint in the rattle can. Nice hard, semi-gloss coating. Just less than a full can per wheel. I looked at powder coating once on steel wheels, was going to run 30 bucks per.

I painted my rims black today.
I scuffed 'em up pretty good, primed them and sprayed them with some Krylon black satin. I sprayed the little plastic hubcab thingies with black Krylon Fusion.
Looks pretty good. Eventually I'm gonna get black rims.
I was just bored and had some free time so what the heck.

I'll post some pics tomorrow
