Painting fender flares and bumpers...

I'd like to get some new paint on my fender flares and bumpers ( black ). They are both pretty faded out.

I got a price of around $500. I'm not looking to spend all that cash on this.

Is there anything I can buy and do it with??? Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

Krylon Fusion for the flares. I used Rustolem black for my bumpers. (if your refering to the milk jugs, Krylon Fusion on them too.)

Agreed^^^

Fusion is good stuff. It binds to the plastic on a molecular level (that's a fancy way to say it melts its wat in there) I've used it on both of my Jeeps. One was on a faded set of Bushwhacker flares. It's good stuff!

The flares on my wrangler now are a faded gray color. I want them black. How much prep work do I need to do?

The bumper and jugs are already black. How much prep on that?

Well, you're gonna want to make sure they are very clean, otherwise the paint will not stick in areas (aka fish eye). Chances are someone along the way has Armoralled the crap out of 'em. You can wipe 'em down with vinegar then rewash with good old Dawn dish washing detergent in water. After that you can wipe it down with either a commercial prep cleaner (Cleans-eze [napa]) or a little enamel paint thinner on a rag. After that, tack cloth them to get up any dust and paint away.

Hope you find this helpful.

soap and water, scuff em up (I used 1500 grit sandpaper) and paint. oh yeah, semi-gloss. if you have the time and place, take the flares off and hang them and then paint. I used one of them tool hooks from the depot and set the flare on it. this way you'll get a nice even paint job and you wont have to spend hours taping the Jeep and getting overspray over everything.

I just wiped them down a couple times with good old gasoline on a rag . When no color shows up on the rags, tape off the body and spray a few coats . Removed the tape and I was finished in about the time it takes to remove two flares and didn't have to deal with those damn Nutserts.

I just want to know who would charge $500 to paint flares and bumpers. Must be in Greenwich, CT.
