Painting outside door handle

Has anyone replaced or painted their door handle? The paint is faded and peeling off. How difficult is it to replace it? What kind of paint should I use? Paint or replace? It is working fine with no problem but it just look ugly.

Thanks

I'm glad you asked this. Mine looks like crap too. I'll be following this post, hopefully you'll get some good advice we can all use.

Haven't done it yet but on my list... Guessing you just take the door panel off and switch them out from the inside. Could be wrong, though.

I found the link to the write up on this http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/how-...ors-45442.html

Since it is not broken, maybe I should just paint them?

I painted mine. I was painting my fenders and jugs and thought I'd paint those too. Just taped them and cleaned them good. I used bumper paint.

Same here!! Mine are half doors so I bet it's much less involved...no removing window glass for me.

I painted mine using satin black rustoleum paint from Walmart, 5 or so bucks. I also has some rusting going on so I sanded them down using a dremel with a small wire wheel to get in the corners and behind the handle and cleaned using acetone. I then took some rust preventing spray paint I already had and used that almost like a primer to keep it from rusting again. I let that dry a few minutes then put a few coats of the satin black on and it has held up great over the winter.

Did you removed them from your door when you painted them?

When I painted mine I left them right on the door and taped up all around the handle to protect any stray spray. I also used a small block of wood to jar the handle open so I could paint deep inside it too. Sorry I haven't posted pictures yet they are on my phone, I just need to connect it to my PC and upload them
