Painting Rear Bumper, Should I Remove It?

I just acquired a 99 TJ and want to clean it up before the spring/summer as a hobby/project. I would like to paint/repaint the stock bumper with Rustoleum or some other rust inhibitor.

Any advice on removing the rear bumper or should I just prep the hell out of the rear?

Thanks

BigRagu

It's only like 6 bolts on the bumper and 3 on each plastic end piece if you have them. Took mine off yesterday to trial fit one I had built before I took it to be powder coated. Takes about 5 minutes to get it off. No way you could ever tape off the rear that fast to paint it in place.

When you take it off you'll be glad you did, it will be full of sand, mud and all other road trash. So i would remove it and paint the inside too.

Welcome aboard man.
Are you planning on doing mods? If you have body lift on or are planning on doing one. Do the body lift first and flip it over while you're at it since it will lift up your bumper about 1.75".
