Painting ?'s

To paint the stock flares was it Krylon Fusion that was being used? What do you have to do to prep the surface?

Can the door handles and the rear glass hinges be painted? Or is there another option? Mine are peeling.

Thanks again, Scooby

http://www.wranglerforum.com/tj-chat...nted-6558.html

thats mine
all I did was sand mine down a little, wash , paint came out great ...I only have one spot thats its starting to peel and that is the front of them where they get alot of abuse from brush but its so small that all I need to do is take a paint brush to it

ohh and the door handels i taped off aroung them and covered the door with newspaper n sanded them down a little and sprayed with the krrylon also and it came ot with a good finish ..aswell as the plastic on the door in front of the windows

GOOD LUCK!

On a similar topic, has anybody out here painted a hardtop anything other than factory colors? I keep seeing a red TJ around here w/ a red hard top, I think it looks pretty cool, but I am always going the other direction, in a hurry, etc, haven't been able to get a good look, just wondering if anybody has tried it?

I had a body shop paint mine black again ...came out great

I think it would be hard to match the red with the red of your jeep
I see white TJ's with White matching tops also and it looks awsome so it is possible

I used the red krylon fusion and it came out great. The only prep work i did was wipe them down with an amonia based cleaner as recommended on the can. The first one i wiped down with laquer thinner and i got fish eyes for the first couple of coats but then it went away. they look great it matches the factory red of most wranglers. not the dark red but bright.

un bolt the flares from the body. wash with an acitone wipe or deglosser, let dry and spray with the Krylon fusion. I did mine in flat black and love the look

well when I did mine I just didn't want it really really glossy shiny. I liked just a plain black and the flat was the closest to what I could find. I also looked at the krylon fusion hamered look but Redneckjeep21 said that it sprays on too thick and if you need to touch it up you gotta take it all off. I'm damn happy with my flat though

For what it's worth, I took a piece of scotch bright to one of my flares a couple of weeks ago and it looks fantastic without having to repaint. I do need to paint because of stress marks (white spots) but I was impressed at just the scotch bright's ability to get rid of the dull layer of plastic and not touch the texture. I had the SB soaked with Armor All and it still looks nice and dark versus the super faded gray that I used to have.

I painted mine with Krylon Fusion and I wish the crap would peel off already. I tried getting it off but no luck. The color sucks. Its too dark, doesn't match the top and looks like I tried to bling them out with armorall. The only good thing is now its winter so I'm not gonna wash it.

I just filled it up and the gas nozzle never clicked and poured all over the flare. I think I found out a way to get the paint off, (also cleaned my boots).

I'd make the gas station pay for new flares since it was their pump not functioning right.
