Passenger seat not locking in place

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler X and I've suddenly been having a problem with my passenger seat. For some reason, the seat won't lock in place. I'm not sure how to describe the motion, but it's not the ability to move the seat forward and back for more or less leg room and it's not the lever on the side to lean or straighten the seat back. I think it may have something to do with the lever on the side to get in the backseat. It moves freely on a track on the bottom and moves forward and backwards on the track without difficulty The only problem is that when it moves back into its original driving and sitting position, there is no latching mechanism to keep it in place.
Does anyone have any idea as to how to fix this? I need help because no one can safely sit in that seat at the moment hahaha.
Thanks a bunch!

Start with the obvious -
Is anything under the seat to stop it sliding all the way back or carpet sticking up somehow?
The jack is under there - is that stowed correctly and out of the way?

Try sitting in the seat and pushing back - the lock may engage.

There doesn't appear to be anything blocking its path. Also, it freely moves back to it's original position, where it should lock in place. But it isn't. I don't know if there's supposed to be a pin or a latch that's missing that's supposed to hold it there and other jeepers that i know and could look at for a comparison don't have a a comparable model. I would take a picture and post it but I don't even know what exactly I would be looking at.

I had the same issue with my jeep, this may sound strange but mine started when I removed my Jeep Jack stored under the seat (saw no use for it since there is no way in heck it could ever reach my lifted jeep) anyway what i found is the jack is also used as a "support" for the seat braces and when it is "loose" or not "tightened down" then the passanger seat will lock down into place. I placed the jack and found I had to screw that little yellow turn device to "slightly" open the jack to push against the seat braces under the seat. Once I did this my passenger seat no longer slides forward or makes a "clicking sound" when coming to a stop when a passenger is in seat. So just tighten the jack under the seat and see if that fixes your issue.
