Picking up my 1st Jeep Today, but I Hate the Wussy Tires!

I bought a '98 Wrangler Sahara off ebay yesterday, and I have to drive 3 hours today to go get it. I should be excited because I got a pretty good deal, but the rims and tires (I'm assuming stock-see a couple pics below of it) that are on it make it look like a "wussy" Jeep. I've learned the Sahara flares are 1" wider and are the same color as the body, and I'm not sure if that's what's making the tires look so small to me? Any economical ideas to get me some better tires/wheels? I'm not sure if I'm going to eventually do a lift, so I don't want to spend too much for now...

Where are you located at? I have a set of 31x10.5 r15 Dunlap Mud Rovers for sale on stock jeep gambler rims. They will fit with minor rubbing at full turn.

I think the BFG A/T's would make it look good.

I'm in Holland, MI and I agree that BFG All-Terrain would look pretty good. What size can I get? I'm not exactly sure which wheels are on it -- I know they're OEM, but I'm not sure the width, etc. Are there a particular OEM wheel that I can find a good deal on (maybe at the junkyard) that I would be better off with for BFG's, or is it okay to stick with the wheels I have?

Or A/T's would go perfect with no lift.

Does anyone know why the Sahara has wider flares? Does is allow for wider tires, or no?

They are just flares....

If you live in a area that requires the tires must be 100% covered then there you go wider flares.

Here's a pic of my sahara with 31's and a 2"bl. The tires I purchased from "walmart" for 364.00 put on and balanced.

Just look for a set of Rubicon wheels and tires. 31" MTRs on 16" Moabs would get rid of that wussy look you are referring to, and would fit as is without a need for a lift, although a 2" BB wouldn't be a bad idea if you plan to do much offroading. You can usually find guys selling the Rubi tires and wheels when they upgrade and get a pretty rippin deal. You can probalbly find a set of all five for $500 or less depending on how much tread is left.

That looks much better than what I have. Those wheels are actually what I'd prefer, if I can find the right deal on used ones.

Nice jeep it's just like mine. Here is some pictures of mine with 31x 12.50. I now have 33X12.50. The 31's did not rub at all on mine after I adjusted the steering stops. NC, new TJ owner
