Got my first Jeep for Christmas and have been poking away at electrical fixes and small repairs as time and weather allows.
Think one of my next projects will be to remove these pinstripes. Just wondering if anyone knew if these were factory applied or if anyone thought they looked good???
Just curious, haven't seen them on any other Jeeps
yeah, the pinstripes are not offensive, the flaming skull is a POS. You probably didn't mention it because you either put it on yourself, or like it. Either way, it's got to go. Putting on stickers, in my opinion, should represent something on your Jeep, like good parts installed, or the like.
Haha. Yes the skulls not too popular. I just slapped it on for fun till I could find something better. The pinstripes are tape (stickers) and yes its a Canadian Jeep
My 03 TJ had pinstripes on it when I got it. I don't know if they were factory installed, dealer installed or installed by the first owner. I do know that after over 10 years they were a pain to get off. I used a heat gun and plastic razor blades. After removing them if you look close you can see ghost pinstripes where they were.
I was hoping they would come off easy with a heat gun and figured it would need a little polishing once they were off. Sounds like I'll have to wait for a warm summer day when I have nothing better to do.
Heat gun or an eraser wheel will pull them off. Some adhesive remover will pull the residue off. I wouldnt recommend a clay bar unless you plan on buffing/ polishing afterwards
My .02... I think the stripes look pretty cool. But if you do go to remove them just be careful what kind of adhesive remover you use. Like that "Goo - Be -Gone" stuff... ran into a problem using it once. Whatever you use, try a bit on a part of the paint under the hood or somewhere not visible to see how it reacts with the paint. Sometimes just good ol WD-40 does the job.
You'll probably have to use a heat gun...just warm it up a little bit, try to grab an edge of the pin striping, then pull back and away from the Jeep at so it's kind of lifting the pin striping up. You'll get a feel for how much to warm it up and how hard to pull. If you do it this way, it's a good chance you'll get most of the residue off with it as well.
If you don't have a heat gun..you can use a torch..But just barely touch the surface with the flame and move the torch fast just to get the decals warm. Pull the pin striping back like I wrote above and keep moving down the line with the heat gun or torch.
I used to do vehicle wraps and vinyl lettering. That's how we removed hundreds of vinyl lettering/decals off of vehicles.
