Pitman Arm Gasket?

I'm replacing my steering box.
When removing the old pitman arm I see a rubber gasket between the pitman arm and the steering box.
My new box did not come with one, and in searching diagrams, parts, I don't see any references to one.
I do see pitman arm seals, but these appear to go inside the steering box to seal in the PS fluid. This "gasket" appears to be more for dust/ water protection for the box.
Any know what this is, is it needed with my new box?

Here are some pics.
The first shows the 'gasket', peeking out of the box, part of it is hanging where I mangled it with a puller. It was covering the splines when I began, I pushed it up into the box to get the puller in the gap.
The second is my new box, just has the metal C clip, no 'gasket'

I've never noticed one with the rubber gasket either after having replaced my TJ's steering box three times. I'd install the new one as is without a second thought.

Yeah you should be fine. It appears the original one had a dust boot on it. Most likely to keep debris from building up in and around the snap ring area.
