Please chime in, new member, hopeful owner

New to the forum, hoping to become a proud jeep owner! Came across a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport, 173,000 miles, hard and bikini tops, lift added. $6700. Any input, suggestions. Only wish it was not auto......

You have a link? You would be surprised at some of the guys on this forum and what they can spot just looking at a pic. It's like an art.

Check out kbb.com(Kelly blue book), plug in all the information. Make sure it runs well and all that, which I'm sure you know.

sound like a good deal, miles are a bit high but the engine are known to last if you keep you the maintance. you should look at the frame and see if there any rust. if the frame is eaten by rust real bad walk away. and check if the 4x4 works cause when i bought my jeep it did not work. luck for me the lever only needed to be adjusted. and if you live where it gets cold make sure the heat works. show us a pic if u can.

Only wish it was not an auto?

Man, a Jeep without a manual tranny is a wanna be Jeep!!

Same with a REAL truck, IMO.

Judging from the pic, not a bad looking Jeep, but definitely need to check frame, as mentioned.

I have had 17 surgeries on my left ankle. I can no longer straighten my left foot. This is my third jeep first that is an auto but without it I couldn't own a jeep. I have always loved jeeps. So in your opinion my jeep is a wanna be. So are all vehicles that service people with problems wanna be better. So does that make me a wanna be real man because I have a handicap. Thanks for your opinion

At least he said imo, A jeep is a jeep whether stick or auto! There are good and bad about both. And a handicap doesn't change whether a man is a man or not! Enjoy your jeep and continue to wave!

And back to original post, how about some pics of the underside? Can you post some of those?

About the mileage. I have had a 4.0 with 267000 miles on it before I sold it. Those motors are great. My 2000 has over 150000 and has been problem free.

Another thing to look for as you said u r in Texas. Is look at therefore cooling system and the top of the radiator as TJ are know to have radiator issues. If you have any hott days in the forecast left ask if you can drive it on a hott sunny day and see if it gets hott.

Totally agree. By the first pic you sent, it looks like the previous owner[s] did a pretty good job of maintenance. Is it a 6 cyl or a 4 cyl or did you already stipulate that?

Just be prepared to spend a few hundred extra on hidden issues for a machine with that many miles. Only logical IMO.

Good luck.

Yeah, all those real jeeps and trucks stalling on obstacles while the wannabes crawl right over. Now argue with me and say real men don't stall. Hey look, you just insulted more owners. Ah, the endless cycle.

Ok back to the real subject of this thread...

The jeep looks to be in real good shape. If it is possible, take it to a mechanic and get their opinion. I'm saying this because I bought an 01 sport, 6cyl, 5 speed, in 2008, and over the last year, I have put a lot of money into it. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but make sure you're aware of mechanical issues! Hope this helps

If it is a 4.0, you might want to check to see if it has the 0331 cylinder head. If it does, check the coolant level and look under oil fill cap inside valve cover. If you see a milky white substance, it could have the infamous 0331 defective head. If it does, you may want to reconsider! $$$$ I speak from experience.

well obviously check for rust because around here thats the deal breaker... be careful and inspect the body very well because wet pictures usually means they are trying to hid something but other than that what type of lift
