Please help, check engine light on and speedo and tach stopped working

I was driving my 06 Unlimited Rubicon (with 44k miles, 6 speed manual) today and my speedo started floating then both my speedo and tach went to 0 and check engine light illuminated. Continued running fine, I turned my Jeep off and let it sit for 10 minutes then restarted Jeep. Check engine light is still on but everything else seems to be operating properly. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks in advance!

Push on the dash when it happens. If the gauges come back to life it's your connection between the dash and the gauge cluster. If this is it, pull the cluster off, clean the contacts and put dielectric grease on them to improve the connection. Another option is to use needlenose pliers to slightly twist the male connectors to improve the connection.

Send a message via AIM to Wench
go to autozone and ask them to hook the thingy up and tell us what codes you are getting...

You can lock it..even put a different t/c in it..but its still not a RUBICON!

It was in the shop for a day and they thought it was just a loose connection. Had it back for a cpl days and problem happened again. Turned Jeep off and back on and gauges are operating again but check engine light is still on. Frustrating! I just purchased used from autoway and it has a 60 day warranty but I'm concerned because I know how dealers are with their "warranty". Could it be anything major or just a nuisance? and i did push on the dash when it happened, tapped it and hit it... and that didnt help. Thanks for input!!!

This is a known issue. My Jeep did it the other day. Here's the fix for it.

Part #
Jeep Gauge Fix.
5016261AA

Parts are under 15 bucks.

Also if you google the part number there are other Jeep forums where people have a write up on the repair. JeepForum has several posts.

Try this, should take about 10 minutes and cost zero dollars, worked for me when I hate same issue. Easiest fix you will probably encounter as a Jeep owner.

It got worse today. I was driving at about 45 mph and gauges stopped working and engine died. It wouldnt restart right away. had to pull over, turn everything off for a few minutes then it started again like nothing was wrong. Now check engine light is off, the dealership is going to think im carzy but something is obviously wrong. Has this happened to anyone else? This is my 6th Jeep and I've never had any electrical problems in the past. Worries me.

Well, the engine cutting off should rule out a bad connection to the gauge cluster. I'm at a loss. Did you get a code off of the CEL? Autozone should be able to read that for free for you.

I have codes p0201 injector circuit open - cylinders, p0335 crankshaft sensor A circuit malfunction, U0155 lost communication with instrument panel cluster control module. Any ideas on why all of these codes would be showing? Thanks in advance for advice! ... after I get this resolved it'll be time for lift and tires

I drove my jeep on a trip roughly 5 hrs when I stopped, all the dash lights came on then back off...did the manual code checker where you turn the ignition to run and off three times and had CPS code....replaced Crankshaft position sensor, seems to be running better, more power, but today the gauges all went off, then all the dash lights came on and then gauges started working again...is this a gauge cluster problem? it happened like 4-5 times on a 10 min drive today

Most likely urs is the gauge cluster problem. Try the fix as listed earlier in thread. Need a phillips screwdriver, needle nose pliers and about 10 minutes, then you'll know. Easy, easy fix.....

Most of your codes are from the jeep running poorly at that very moment, don't think all those codes are parts you now need to replace, have the codes cleared, drive it around a little but don't stray to far from wherever you had it scanned, once the light comes back on get right over to have it scanned again, see if you get a code "P0123" if you do get that code, it's a common problum with 03-06 tj's... let us know if you get that code. You can google (P0123 tj jeep) and you'll see that it will give all the same symptoms... its a repair/part behind your steering wheel you can do at home..

Yep, that's the one... A temp fix when it's acting up w/P0123 is to unplug the horn relay... Sounds crazy I know...
