Please help, no brake lights or turn signals!

Yesterday my battery and starter were dead so I replaced both. Now it starts and runs excellent but driving I realized that I have no turn signals or brake lights. I do have tail lights though. I'm pretty good with the mechanical side of things but know nothing of electrical. I have checked the fuses and they seem ok, I also checked the cords and as far as I can tell they look fine.

Did you check the bulbs? The filaments for turn signals and brake lights are the same filament. Odd they would go at the same time but I would check there first. The filaments can sometimes appear unbroken but shaking the bulb up to a light should shake a broken filament. Check there first.

I'm having a hard time trying to find a wiring diagram for my 99. If anyone has a link to one I would appreciate it.

you will have a number of grounds through out, if you had a haynes or chiltons there should be a diagram in there, double check in the area of all the work you did to make sure something didnt get knocked loose or broke a connection

Look under the steering column - there's a connector that the turn/brake lights go through next to the column. It may have come loose.

It seems odd that the srarter and the battery both went out all of a sudden. I agree you probably have a high resistance or a bad goound. Haines is worthless fo grounds. Look undet the hood and behond the dash and wherever all the grounds are attached take the screw out and wire brush them and reattach them. The other thing you can try is take a Jemper cable to the - posr groung on the battery and clamp it to the body somewhere. Make sure it is a bare spot like on the steering column or one og f the body grounds.

I thought it to be odd you lost both at the same time also however failed too say anything. unless starter nose locked up causing a drain to the battery, I am unsure of the best resource to find your grounds. but it only seems to make sense to me to start lookin in the area where you were......Good luck

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help, I was outside digging around in the steering column and noticed that my hazard switch was on, turned it off and then brake lights and turn signals work again. but I found out that I do not have hazards. Thanks again and sorry I made a fool of myself
