POLL:highest milage Jeeps

Ok everyone check in with the milage on you Jeep. What kind of routine maintenence have you done and any big repairs that were needed.
The highest milage Jeep owner wins a chicken (you pluck ,you kill).

173,512. Oil Change ~4k, here's a list of the stock stuff that I have repaired/replaced: water pump (twice), radiator, power steering pump, O2 sensor, freeze plug, heater core, and clutch (twice). The rest of the stock stuff has held up pretty well. Knock on wood.

Thumbs up Clutch

Is the Clutch very difficult to replace did you do it yourself if not how much is the usual fee?Do you replace your diff.,trans.,and transfer case fluid very often? At what milage did the first clutch need to be replaced?

THANX!

The clutch isn't too difficult to replace. The first clutch went out at 90k. I don't know what a shop would charge, but I would guess somewhere around $500. I change the oil in the diffs, tcase and tranny around every 20k.

I had 249,000 on my last 4.0 Jeep before that pole jumped out in front of him. I did all maintenance on schedule. I rebuilt the engine around 130,000 but that is because BYU is 2.5 hours from Moab and I was there at least once a month for about 2.5 years. It had the original automatic transmission too. I changed out the radiator when I redid the engine. Yes that engine was a new beast when it woke up. Bored .060" over, Comp Cam, high volume oil pump, gasket matching intake and exhaust, Borla headers into a Flowmaster exhaust. It was great.

The owners manual claims the manual transmission oil never needs to be changed. So I assume that is not true?

That is a Daimler Chrysler thing. I gotta call BS on that one.

All fluids (other than engine oil) once a year (out of habit), and if you submerge your axles (go swimming) check for water contamination and replace more often as needed.

44k, at 38k had a massive oil leak it was still under 7/77 powertrain and I took it into the dealer, the leak after 10 plus days on the rack and taking it apart twice turned out to be the oil sender on the side of the engine, but they replaced the clutch because of a bad spring and another loose one, without charging me labor.

then I kind of voided the warranty I think.

Mine TJ is at 156,000. It's got a New Clutch, Master Cylinder, Oil Pan, Radiator, Battery (obviously), Steering Components, and a few muffler hangers. This is a New England Car so the rust does a number on the undercarriage and body too.

Not even worth mentioning but, 40k with problems ever. I need to change my tires because they are worn and no longer properly balanced. I change the oil every 3k miles and give her a bath from time to time. Like when it rains!

178k original clutch! 4.0l

99' so headers cracked and replaced with ebay borla knockoffs and muffler shot so got a flowmaster. And yes I have a hanger busted loose right now gotta fix.

Oil every -3k and diff and tranny service and transfer case when needed. (More I abused the more I changed).
Slave and Master cylinder replace at 165k.

Stock suspension completely destroyed by 170k with terrible torque sag and twisted control arms. (Hehe)

Finally putting a new radiator in next week. 100deg wheelin did a number on her last weekend.

My '97 TJ says it has 71k. But it's had oversized tires and an incorrect spedo for more than 2 years.

I think this guy wins the prize. That's impressive. I would love to know if the engine has been rebuilt or replaced. I know the 4.0 is known for its durability, but 400k is crazy.

my '99 has 81k on it. Had to replace the exhaust manifold, I have done full tune ups, and change the oil regularly. Changed tranny fluid at about 70k. Runs like a champ!

95 YJ with 170k (4.0), oil changes every 3k, replaced exhaust manifold and slave cylinder for the clutch at 140k, everything else has been routine maintenance items.

147,000 and just mostly maintenance type stuff. One O2 sensor went, now another has died. Might need brakes soon, and starting to wonder how much life the clutch has left.

111K but I just got the YJ in May. Did the usual plugs, wires, oil, and replaced Fuel Pressure Regulator. Runs like a top. (Brakes and lines replaced by previous owner.) Paid $2200. with soft and hardtop for it and now have $3700 in it with things like, tax, licence, new seats, rear bumper, detai and touch up paint here n there. and some misc. small parts. No complaints.

140,000 miles. I always chang ehte oil at exactly 3,000 miles with Castrol GTX High Milage 10w-30 with a Wix or a Mopar filter. I have replaced the steering box,on front brake caliper(along with new pads and shoes) and the water pump. The water pump and steering gear box both between 136,000 and 139,000. I also changed my tranny oil with Redline MT-90 at 135,000.
