POP then metal shavings and fluid on front wheel

i was driving down the road (about a mile from the house) and heard a pop like i ran over something, looked back, but didnt see anything. after that a "metal on metal" sound occured when i hit the brakes. when i got home i noticed metal shavings and dried fluid on the drivers side front wheel. any ideas on what it would be?

did you hit a can? I freaked out when I hit a beer can, awful noise and the can got lodged in some of the arms.

Yep. Had this happen on my last truck, except the pad was lodged and I could only drive backwards.

Something similar happened to my Dad's pickup not too long ago. His caliper slides seized up. Needless to say he didn't think there was anything wrong. Figured the noise was due to being a 12 year old truck with 130,000 miles. He continued to drive it with the caliper seized for about 3 weeks and this is what happened. lol

Definately a brake problem so pull the wheel and find out what the damage is.

Yeah, my pad looked about like the one in Rubicon2's pic lol. weird though, it never squeaked, rubbed or anything before this(probably because it has a 4 banger in it (for now) and wont go fast enough to have to use brakes lol). the dried fluid stuff is what threw me off, seems to just be something i ran over because it is nowhere else. so yeah, pretty simple fix, new pads and rotors, back Jeepin. thanks guys
