Possibly buying my FIRST Jeep...Questions!

Hello, new here to the forum, I am looking at buying my first Jeep, which is a stock 2000 Wrangler Sport with the 4.0 I6. I was wanting to get some information from you all about this model and anything I should look at in particular as well as the most common problems people run into with these.

It has 100,000 miles on it and from my look over, the engine compartment is clean and no leaks, rock chips on hood and front that need to be addressed, the hinges the doors sit on are rusted but just surface, doors open and close just fine. Auto trans seem to shift and run fine with no knocking or any bad noises as well as the steering is fine.

For what I can see as the worse problems is, there is a leak somewhere, which has caused the passenger floorpanel to rust about all the way through, its a bout the size of a grapefruit. As well as there is a small amount of oil on the rear diff pumpkin. Also forgot to mention that there is rust where the antenna is mounted around the mount.

Is the oil showing on the rear diff of any great concern? Is the floor panel an easy fix as well as what is causing the leaking? As well as the rust around the antenna mount? No other rust to be spotted outside of normal road rust underneath on frame and what not.

I got them talked down to 7500? Should I get buy it with the problems I have spotted?

Sounds like a good jeep, if you post some pictures would be better. You should look for a d44 in a sport, would be better in the future and stronger. As for the rust, you can fix it easy if its just superficial.

The floor rust is through in the very middle of the rust patch. I am thinking it would have to take cutting that section out and replacing it.

I just bought my first Jeep about 6 months ago and it's basically the exact same Jeep you are looking at. Now my advice is to look into the axles. After buying mine I learned I have about the weakest axle with the worst gearing.
They are fine for staying stock but if you want to lift and get bigger tires (33"+) and plan on off roading then look into what axles and gearing it has now.
There are a bunch of threads on here explaining what to look for.
