- regear

- put in a 6cyl or better a 8cyl.

- compressor / turbo (much more expensive than an engine swap)

Not a lot of options for low budget.

idk, my stock muffler looks like crap, and sounds like it too. I might get a glasspack for $20-40 at Kragen

I have the 4cyl as well if you want more power an exhaust isn't going to do much (trust me I have one header back) one thing you might be able to do with the exhaust is get a hi-flow cat (my next upgrade) this might give you a little more HP but not much. along with that statement IDK about cali emissions laws say about the GP or the hi flow.

Cal sucks. I couldn't even pass smog with a CAI. They made me put the stock one on for the test.

you have a 2.5L right? You can swap in a throttle body out of a 4.0 wrangler.. It bolts right on. People say they get something while others say they dont.. i personally think you would get something since the difference in size is quite noticable..

4" lift and 33's w/ a 4cyl? I'm surprised she'll get out of her own way! One word, re-gear! You are probably running a 3.07 rear gear, with hardware like you have, you need to be lots higher, probably at least 4.11's!

Actually I think I'm running 3.77 or higher already, but I can't confirm that. A re-gear would be nice, I'd go 4.55 if I had the money.

I can't swear to it, but I read somewhere that most, if not all Honda Passport SUV's and the Isuzu twin came from the factory w/ D44's and good gears, might be worth looking thru a local bone yard to source a new rear end w/ the gears already in it!

If your gonna do an axle swap put a Ford 8.8 in out of a 96'+ Explorer. Disc brakes, good ratios, and 31 spline shafts, and CHEAP!

The only thing you can do, if you don't swap your rear axle, is re-gear to 4.88's for the best results.

Kinda goin back to the 4.0 Throttle Body idea.... I would check a bone yard for that too. I called some local ones around here and they had quite a few. They also told me my 2.5 Wrangler was compatible with some Cherokee and the Dodge Dakota throttle bodys.... Wonder how true their comment was about the cherokee and dakota TB working in my 2.5l TJ?!?!?! If it is accurate info it's not a bad idea. Our 2.5l TB's are a bottleneck!!!

Regear is the ultimate choice, just need a little more $$ for that!!!

Cherokees that are, 98-01, I believe, with the 4.0L has the same TB as a TJ. So yes it would work. I donno about the Dakota though as they have V6's and V8's.
