Im looking to get a brawler bar from poison spyder, which comes bare. I would like to power cost it but do not know what that would cost me and can I do it myself. And I don't know if that is even what would be best. It seems like most people just give it they're own rattle can job, or I have even thought of a spray in bed liner for the whole bumper. What are all of your experiences with coating bumpers or other armor and what have you used?
It probably wouldn't cost much to powder coat. I had my HPD30 axle sand blasted and powder coated for $175. So I would think it would be under $100 if it's bare already.
You wouldn't be able to do it yourself unless you had access to an oven it could fit in.
Question is: if you're gonna bang it up, can you live with the dings/dents/scratches in a nice powder coating? that would definitely be the best looking option as well as the hardiest. It would be the most difficult to cover up if you ding it up. If you're not going to trail run much, that's the best option.
But if you wheel it, and ding it up pretty good, then I'd say any of the truck liner/bedliner sprays. Scratch it up good, and you'll have a smile knowing all you have to do is sand and shoot another coat on there.
Well I always thought that the powercoating was some kind of hibrid between a paint job and a bed liner spray? The reason im considering that over the rattle can job is because I figured it wouldnt really scratch besides from the big hits on boulders
Eastwood sells a powder coating kit. Not to bad of a price. The big thing is having an oven that it will fit in. Don't do it in an oven that you will cook in afterwards.
I hate powder coat. It looks beautiful but once any rust gets started it is impossible to stop. It grows and spreads under the coat causing it to bubble and flake off. With paint it is easy to see any rust and treat it
That looks like a very good DIY idea. I agree that wrinkle paint is hard to wipe clean. I may try it later this summer on front and rear bumpers. Thanks for the pictures.
I had also sprayed my hardtop prior to the winter with the bedliner. As it is right now, it looks great but can't be wiped! So, before I put that top back on in the fall, I'm going to clean it and hit it with several coats of the Rustoleum Professional on top of the bedliner.
