I wouldn't use a pressure washer under the hood personally regardless of what you cover. At least not one with any more than a minimal pressure nozzle on it.

You would need to cover so much as to make it useless IMO.

A moderate spray pressure hose and soft brush/rags is what I've used under the hood with the air intake area covered.

I second that. I always cover my fuse box and distributor and just a low pressure nozzle.

If mud didn't hurt anything water won't hurt neither.
Since yours is distributor less not much to worry.
I agree with Saltwaterwop no pressure washer under the hood, well the radiator will apreciate some pressure wash!!

What I have found works well for cleaning under the hood and around the engine is a very diluted mixture of water and "marine clean". Mix about 2-3 cap fulls of cleaner to a gallon of water. Using just a garden hose, wet down the entire engine bay, underside of the hood, ect. Being sure not to spray too much at the alternator or directly into the air intake/air filter. Then using either a spray bottle or pump sprayer soak everything that is dirty in the cleaning solution. Let it sit for 5-10 mins but don't let the cleaner dry onto the surfaces. Then hose off the cleaner. There may be some trouble areas that need a scrub but the "marine clean" is good stuff and cleans really well.

I cover all the neccessary things and spray the bay with Simple Green and then used the garden hose nozzle and it worked out perfectly. Good Luck!

I have pressure washed the engine at least 3-4 times and the only thing I cover is the intake (just put a rag in it). I never had any problems.

just cover the intake and spray away. Don't use a lot of pressure, I use the car wash bay all the time just don't pull the trigger for full power.

I've washed many engines for many years. Just plug the intake. The only thing that has caused problems as indicated above is a pressure washer. Just use a garden hose. The pressure can force water into places that a hose otherwise would not. (Don't worry about the alternator. On the jeep and on most vehicles, it is right behind the fan. Do you know how much spray it receives in the rain and if you hit deep water?)
