Pricing 99 Sahara/ Wranger

Bought a 99 Sahara a couple weeks ago and thought I paid a fair price. Friend of mine that claims to know Jeeps said I paid to much? Simply wondering what forum members think about the pricing. Not crying simply curious what people say that really know these units.....

It's a 99 Wranger/Safari, I6, Auto trans, dark green/tan soft top with 117,000 miles. A/C works fine and it's extremely clean. good tires, new shocks, new brakes, new exhaust and rotors, new soft top (less then a year), tinted glass and a Sony stereo with overhead speaker bar. The interior looks like it's new.. there isn't a worn spot anywhere inside it. It's been fully maintained (oil changes, etc with the records to prove it) no rust even on the frame. I crawled all around this thing! He even had all the manuals and the original window sticker... He was the 2nd owner.....

The engine runs silky smooth and trans shifts properly. Can't find any mechanical problems with it so far!! I think the owner was extremely AR about taking care of it. I put a new battery in and that's it...... I paid $6100 which I thought was a fair price? Yes it's a 99 but all things considered I didn't feel like I got drilled but then again I'm not a Jeep expert. thanks....

That's a fair price to me. It looks sweet. Compare your price to similar jeeps online and I think you'll be satisfied. But in the end all that matters is that it was worth it to you.

You did fine. a "good deal" is what you think it is. If you think it was fair than it is. go have fun and welcome to the jeep family.

You got a good deal.

I can't see the pic's right now but are you meaning Jeep Wrangler SAHARA edition?

There was no factory "Safari" wrangler.

That would even be a good deal if you tacked a couple grand onto it where I live. It depends on the market, but that is a killer deal.

You guys are making feel much better! It was sort of an impulse buy... on my way to the grocery store on a Sunday morning with my F150! It was parked on a guys lawn which it turned out was the 1st day he had it out. Stopped, crawled around under and over it and thought it was well cared for. Called the guy on my cell, took it for a ride and after 10 mins made an offer which he accepted... with a little back and forth!

I agree if I'm happy then it's worth what I paid... but my BUDDY rather annoyed me claiming I got ripped off! Guy I bought it from just didn't seem to be that type of person. I go a lot by a handshake and looking someone in the eye making a deal. Told him if he'd deliver it to my house the next day I'd have the cash for him..... He said no problem, shook hands and that was that. Didn't take more than 30 mins to do the entire deal....

Thumbs up

You got a very good deal! Jeeps keep thier value well. Plus it's not everyday that you can get such a jeep in this cond, with that miles, and have all the paper work. I have a 00 Sahara, I purchased from the original owner with all paper work and in mint condition like yours. I paid $7500. that was four to five years ago. (I'm in south florida) Where else could you spend that kind of money for a vehicle, and have a clean dependable vehicle that HOLDS thier value. You did good.

Actually on second though you got totally ripped off. You need to sell it to me for the price you paid so you can find another one.

X2, I was thinking the same thing.

That is a fair price for sure. With proper maintenance that I6 hasn't even hit its mid-life crisis.

Yeah, I've seen them in worse condition then that, go for alot more lol. My 06 came with full steel doors and a hardtop. That was the selling point for me. Thats 4grand by itself if you look at catalog prices. Paid 9grand total for mine, after looking at 15 or more in the 12-15 thousand range. Enjoy the Jeep, and good find.

A year ago this very month, I paid $9300 for my 99 Sahara dual top. Sounds a lot like yours from a condition stand point and had 128k on it. My top which is painted to match it probably worth 1500 to 1800 if I were to sell it. Also has gun metal hinges and all new paint. It was damaged in a car wash....no accidents.

Dealers were getting 10 to 12k for similar. I missed out on 4 others including a 98 Sport that was silly clean and 150k that went for 500 over asking price due to a bid war for 8 grand. Soft top and half doors.

You paid what I would have paid up here for one with an R title.

If I were to sell today I would list for 8900 and it would sell for 8500.

So unless you have a blown head or bad tranny, or gas hits 8 bucks, I think your Jeep will likely never be worth 1,000 less than what you paid for it no matter how long you keep it.

The value of a jeep here is simple. Any TJ regardless of condition and miles (but not smashed) that drives and the 4WD works with a 4.0 will sell for a 5500 minimum.

Great post and thanks for the info! You made some excellent points about the value of these things. I wanted something smaller for grocery shopping, etc... my F150 is HUGE gas hog (12-14 on good days) with the 5.4 and it's a pita in malls etc. I figured something small like my Jeep is perfect run about for errands etc. It's not going see more than 4 to 5k miles a year, hence buying used. Thanks again!

Same way ours gets used. My wife and each each have company cars and the jeep is just for fun. Ours saw less than 3k miles in the past year.

A) That's a killer deal.
B) I assume that is a 31" Duratrac on stock height -- which just confirms that will be my next new pair of shoes on my 2000 Sahara. That looks fantastic.
C) Congrats and enjoy!

Last summer I paid $5000 for my 99 Sport with Hardtop & 25k fewer miles than yours but I would have gladly shelled out an extra grand for that one. Even if that was a Sport it's lack of rust alone would make it worth what you paid but to get a Sahara to boot? That's a deal well made.

I should add that I've put over $1k into mine over the past year and the AC doesn't work!

Yes sir.. that's what it is... I like the look of it and probably won't be 4-wheeling much if at all.... so it should be decent for the street!

Thanks for the kind words....

Well that pisses me off. I paid $4700 for my '99 in no where near that kind of shape. And I needed to fix some stuff.

You did real good. Now go get it dirty!

sounds like a good deal to me! I got my 2000 Sahara with 4.0 3.5 inch lift and 33 inch tires for 10,000. Oh and it had 72,000 miles on it.

Well I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a money pit!! Only thing I've done is a new battery cause the other was around 6+ years. Didn't want to get stuck when I least needed to. What impressed me was the interior is almost like brand new... guess the former owner was really AR about keeping it nice.

Heck my 06 f150 is more beat up inside.. I feel a lot better after hearing folks here say it was a decent deal as opposed to my buddy! He can take flying.. well you know the rest! It did pizz me off when he said I got drilled cause we all like to make FAIR deals.... I usually research things pretty good but to be honest I was afraid it might be sold before I got back to there.... hence making the deal on the spot! I figure for that amount of money it was worth the risk and the seller NEEDED the cash ASPA. It was his DD and was buying a used truck and really wanted to make a deal....

I'm sure it will be fine because from everything I can see it was very well taken care. No guarantee it doesn't puke tomorrow but that's life! I also have a supercharged vette which is my other fun vehicle... and when you're pumping 650 rwhp it's prone to go bye bye without warning!... I've done most of the work myself including custom interior. Sometimes ya gotta pay to play I figure.... Thanks again for your kind comments... Here's a pic of the other play toy but I think the Jeep is WAY more practical...

Here's a few pics of the other ride....
