Pro Comp Shocks?! Are they white?

I've seen the Pro Comp shocks online and they appear to be a greenish color. Are they? I want my shocks to be white. I talked to a guy at 4wheelparts and he told me they were in fact white. Is this true? Does anyone have these on their Jeep?

My buddy just put a 2.5" procomp lift on his jeep, and his procomp shocks were white.

I believe they are white too but even if they weren't, it only takes 30 seconds per shock to paint them white with a little Krylon or Rustoleum rattle can paint. Personally, I don't think you'll like the ultra-stiff ride of the ProComp ES-3000 shock. The ES-9000 is even stiffer. Only their MX-6 which is adjustable can be made so it doesn't ride so stiffly. Few like the stiff ride of ProComp's ES-3000 shock.

I put some Pro-Comp shocks on my old Dakota...they rode super rough and had a crazy annoying squeak. I ended up putting cheap Autozone Gabriel shocks on...and loved them over the Pro-Comps.

Worry about the important stuff like how the shocks ride, not their color. As Jerry says, they can always be painted.

Reviving an old thread here - I bought my Jeep 1 1/2 months ago and the PO had installed Pro-Comp shocks within the last 6 months. When I bought the Jeep I figured, "Hey, new shocks that sounds good". But after driving the car I just HATE how rough of a ride they produce. Driving over speed bumps in a lifted Jeep you expect a little bit of a pillowy sensation (at least I would like that), but instead the whole car is jarred with enough rattles to crack your teeth. My girlfriend has given up and no longer likes to ride in the Jeep.

Based on this thread, I assume its the pro-comp shocks. Is there any benefit to these shocks? Any cheap way to soften the ride, or alternatively, sell the shocks and buy softer ones?

yes they are white. i have had two sets and they were both solid white. the only shocks they have sold that are not white were there limited edition robby gordon shock that was a gunmetal finish. and if they tell you the 9000 are too much for your jeep dont listen i just put them on my jeep and it is the best ride i have ever had. was at gordon wells over the weekend and everyone at camp said its the best feel they've had in my jeep ever so dont be put off by the sales man

ha ha ha sounds like you need a grand cherokee.looking for cushion from a wrangler? really. thought people owned jeeps cause they were rugged and capable. put a pillow shock in and you get bottoming out in rough stuff and quicker body roll. if you never off road then a iguess a pilow is ok but no matter what shocks i have put on yhe jeep it rides rough ITS A JEEP NOT A CADI! i had bilstien 5100's in the jeep rough as hell could feel every little bump and crack in the road. had factory replacments . felt like i was going to roll around moderate corners at posted speed.also had pro comp es3000 was a rough ride. just installed the es9000 itrogen charged love. will not got to another shock till pro comp stops making them. oh and had the mx6's in the rear for a while those were a nice ahock if you dont mind getting out and adjusting the knob on all four corners at each new terrain style.my point here is that everyone here is complaing about pro comp being rouh. but most 4wheelparts guys will try and sell the oil charged es 3000 as they did me but i opted for the nitrogen charged.if the pro comp name scares you the rancho5000 is compareable at around 10 dollars more a shock.i think the oil filled shocks produce a rougher ride. just going off personal expierence.

Sorry if because I don't off-road my Jeep I have somehow denigrated myself or the Jeep brand. I just don't off road the Jeep and would never be bottoming out in the rough stuff. The most "stuff" this Jeep will see is snow covered streets. Perhaps "pillowy" was the wrong word, I really just want shocks that have a little more cushion, but not so much that the tail end whips out on every turn.

My SRT6 has an extremely rough ride as its low to the ground and has very stiff sport suspension. I guess I am just looking for a little bit more a soft ride in the Jeep. I certainly can live with the rough ride of the Pro-Comps, and I am not saying they are bad shocks, just personal preference.

Input is appreciated.

Mine are white and I don't feel as though the ride is ruff at all. In fact, my buddy commented on how smooth my jeep rode compared to others he has been in. I wonder what I am missing?

I have to say that I found the ES3000 shock better in off road application than I did street driving. If you arent wheeling the jeep, you may want a softer shock. I went w the Rancho 9000s and like them much better, but they are quite abit more money. I will be adding my 3000s to the for sale section.

I think I went with SkyJacker Hydros. Mine had ProComps originally. Nothing was wrong with them except the bushings were worn out and they rattled, but they were rough. The skyjackers were pretty cheap and the ride is a little better, not much though. It's gonna be kinda hard to get a smooth ride out of a jeep. I did some research and decided to go with SkyJackers, for the ride and for the price. I did some looking around here and a few other Jeep sites to get an idea of what people are running, what they were doing in the Jeep, and what it cost. A Many were stating to get the adjustable nitros and set it really soft. I didn't want to spend several hundred dollars for a set of adjustable Nitros and find it wasn't as smooth a ride verses the money out of pocket.
In the end, you can get some cheaper shock but I don't think it's going to smooth it out a whole lot, or you can go with an expensive adjustable one and take a chance.

Thanks this is really helpful. I can't justify spending several hundred dollars on shocks just for a softer ride, especially when the Pro-Comps I have are almost new and are perfectly adequate. Guess the girlfriend is out of luck!

dont get me wrong a jeep owner is a jeep owner and holds my respect. but for a comfortable and soft ride a wrangler is probely the worst choice. my dodge ram 1500 rides smother than my jeep did stock.the wrangler is so rough cause of the short wheel base. the front doesnt have time to settle before the rear tires hit it and cause a bucking feeling and jittering. but go ride in a cj for a week then get back in your tj and it will again feel like a cadi.

my opinion exactly. the es3000 are oil charged or something like that as compared to the rancho 9000 and the es9000 are both nitrogen charged shocks. i have a way softer and sturdy ride with the es9000 than i did with the es3000 or the adjustable mx-6's.if you look in the picture you will see the difference from oil and nitrogen. see how the top shocks are almost compressed and staying compresed the bottom ones are too but the top are most noticable.cause the shock just smoths the spring action into a slow movement as opposed to nitrogen shocks which are fully extende when off the vehicle.giving spring compression and extension more fluent motions. i thought it would be rougher on the street but better for the dunes but i was wrong they work great in all conditions cant' be happier.i would never ever recommend a oil filled shock again.

What size tires are you running and exactly what air pressure is in them? Overinflated tires are a common source of an extra-stiff ride, in addition to the stiff ride that ProComp shocks give.

i gotta ask what shocks from pro comp did you have? cause im curious how many complaining of a rough ride are using the es1000 and es3000 oil filled and how many are running nitro's. and how many went from a oil filled pro comp to a competitors nitro charged shock and are now saying that procomps give a rough ride. cause my expierence with my new pro comps just dont match the complaints issed here.

I personally ran ProComp ES-3000 and MX-6 and was constantly using all of their shocks in the work I would direct my local 4WP shops (El Cajon, Chula Vista, and Escondido) to do when I worked for ProComp's parent company. I was of course required to use ProComp shocks in the builds I would configure for my local Jeep and truck dealerships we built vehicles for. Their ES-1000 is just a cheaper version of the EX-3000, both of which are hydraulic shocks. In the years I worked for them, the constant complaint on the Jeeps and trucks my guys built was the stiff ride caused by the ES-3000 we used on Jeeps and ES-9000s we used on larger trucks. The ES-3000 is notoriously infamous for its stiff ride when installed on a Jeep. The reason is that ProComp doesn't make different versions for Jeeps versus other different weight vehicles. No matter what your vehicle weighs, the valving is the same for similar model ProComp shocks.

well i cant speak for the 9000's on the bigger vehicles but i can agree on the hydraulic shocks they are extremly rough but as im sure youve read i switched for the 9000(which according to 4wp is too much shock for a jeep) and the ride is like none other i am overly happy. i dont think my jeep has ever been this smooth.if you get your hands on a set some how with your connections try running the 9000 in your jeep and see how they feel maybe with you impression and influence in the industry you can give jeep owners a more expierenced staff at the counters. it seems not many know wranglers. in the el cajon store atleast.

i do have a complaint about procomp though. those weak bar pins. every set ive owned have broken both barpins in the rear. im bent one of my new 9000's all out of wack at gordons luckily the shock just tucked up in between the tank and body and didnt bend or damage anything. i bent it back and continued on but im sure itw waiting to snap

Carry spare bar pins, most shops have them laying around and they'll give you some if you ask in the back where the mechanics work.

i went to day and got two from 4wp el cajon but its just a nucence that should be addressed my factory shocks when i got the jeep saw 5ft of air on more than one occassion and never broke. and no i wasnt trying to jump the jeep just a newb in the dunes at that time.
