Problem that needs Diagnosing

Hey Everybody,

Im trying to figure out what in the world is the sound coming from underneath. It sounds like that quick rattle right before the engine were to stall out but its not even close to stalling at all. It only happens when I am giving gas to go into the next gear. Its a real quick rattle then stops. I have been trying to figure out what it is for days and it is driving me crazy Anyone have any ideas or had the same problem and could help me figure out the cause. Thanks in Advance!

Best guess I got would be cat heat shield. If your TJ has one. With the rpm issue being a trigger-and no driveability problem-would look there first-Good Luck.

^^^^^ that or possibly the exhaust rattling. Mine did when you'd first put it in gear... a quick adjustment to the hanger fixed it. Grab it WHEN IT'S COLD, and shake it, see if it's hitting something.

When my cat was going out I got a "death rattle" that would come and go. Bang on it and see if it sounds like a maraca.

Oooooh good call. I forget about that. My son's cat went out on his Cougar and it sounded like the thing was gonna fall apart before it made it to the end of the street.... Eventually it will blow out the chunks and sound normal again if that's what it is.....
