Project 99 Wrangler meets Beetle Juice(pics)

Well I had the frame from the 99 Wrangler that was rolled and a good rebuilt motor and tranny,,,,,what to do,,, So I measured the wheel base and dang a wrangler is short.I think it was like 92"s and outside of a mini cooper or a smart car I could not find anything that short so I found and old 71 VW Beetle with 93" wheel base so I started. Here are the pics so far.

I know the body is to the driver side by about 2"s but it is just at the test fit stage right now.

Are you going to notch the body so it sets down on the frame more or is on the frame already?

Cool idea mating the two together. I like it.

It will sit down a little more in the front than it is in the pics but it is close to were it is going to be other than over to the right and down in the front a little. It is propped up in the front right now because I have not got all that needs to be cut out cut yet and the floor was going to smash the crank sensor so I propped it up in the front some.I still have a lot of cutting and welding yet but I think it is going to be a wild little ride.I was thinking of leaving the suspension all stock and figuring out a way to have removable fenders for more flex while off road.As we all know the beetle didn't have very good heat so I am putting the factory Jeep heater box under the rear seat with PVC pipe for ducts up to the front defrost.I will post more pics as I get more done.

P.S. Thanks for the cool remarks because I was kind of down today when a couple people said it looked stupid and a few more were calling it Frankenstein. Then again it was older women that are used to the plain jane Malibu grocery go getter and not used to thinking outside the box.I have had more good remarks than bad so far

When an old woman tells you she hates your car, that only means it's a cool bitchin' build that you can't expect her to get or appreciate.

Yeah that is kind of what I thought also the only negative comments I have had from other car/truck/jeep guys was that it is a shame to cut the beetle up to build it into a Frankenstein machine.LOL

As far as suspension KBR97 I think I am going to leave it stock for now and see what the 33 from my Jeep look like and if they will fit before getting the tires and wheels.I think the old aluminum slots would look good as far as wheels.

Yeah they will be bigger than what is on it now but if my 33s will not work it will be 31s for now.

Well right now I am having problems getting it inspected to transfer and believe it or not it is not because of the out of body experience it is because the cop can not find the vin tag on the body and said he needs to verify both Vin tags. The other I have found is supposed to be in the front beside of the hood latch(used to be trunk) But the tag is gone, actually the whole front panel has been replaced so does anyone know what a person has to do in this case. The Vin tag in the windshield is good and a match to the title but they will not pass it without the body tag.

One of a kind, for sure. Best of both worlds, the old bug and a jeep. I like it, you just have to remember to wave to other vw/jeep hybrids when you see them

The VW Vin is the one that will be used.I think if I tag it as a 99 Wrangler if they run my plates that would BUG them a little I think. The VIN is on the dash in the normal driver side windshield corner but the one on the door post is missing or painted over or whatever but they will not pass it without that one being visible.

Go to a sticker place and have them make you one. Find a door tag from anything scan it in the computer. Fill it in with the VW stuff and then take it to the sticker shop. Have them make it and then stick it in place. Then you can get it licensed and plated!!

Well I called the courthouse today and I found out that it only has to have the original Vin tag under the driver side windshield and it has that so the actual Sheriff is coming to look at it tomorrow. So hopefully I will get ok inspection so I can go on and continue working on it.
What do you mean"

Yeah I have the steel stamps to make one from a tin plate but I would rather try it the legal way "first"

It would still be the legal way of sorts just not buying the sticker from VW is all. It is the same stock sticker that came with it. Just a newer version. In the end your not faking anything, or trying to mislead anybody!

Well the Sheriff came today and done the inspection and gave me the paper that I needed so all is good I should have the title work done and on its way to me on Monday so back to the metal work now.I pulled the fenders off and I am thinking about the baja fenders but I still think it would be cool to have the fenders on with slotted dowels and two pins at the bottom of each one so they can be removed(quick and easy) for offroad.

Thanks!!! I don't think I will need much to clear 33s even with the frame at stock height due to the body sitting up on the platform so high.
