qaudratop

i see quadretec has a new soft top, the one for my TJ $309 with tinted windows, i think my hardware is still in good shape except for the straps. would new straps come with the top or are they part of oem hardware? i was going to get a best top nx but for 300 bucks ,this top seems like a good deal?

QuadraTop 11000 0315 - Quadratop Replacement Soft Top without Upper Doors & with Tinted Rear Windows for 97-02 Jeep® Wrangler TJ - Quadratec

Says it's been made by the same manf that makes the tops for Jeep. That would probably be Bestop, and if that's the case then that would be a deal!

Don't mistake that top for what the factory installs. Bestop has an import line which is their cheap entry-level line that is designed to compete with cheap top importers like Smittybilt and is nowhere near the quality of the Sailcloth soft top that comes on all new TJs. The import version is what Quadratec is selling that they carefully word to infer it is the same top as what Bestop sells to Jeep for installation in new Jeeps, it's not.

If you compared the fabric between the two, you'd see a dramatic difference in thickness and quality... not to mention sound levels inside the Jeep between the two tops. I wouldn't touch it myself.

I think 2003-2006 has different roll bar covers, so the top might be too tight.

The only real difference between '97 to '02 and '03 and newer is the the zippers on the windows. Windows are not interchangeable between those two groups of years due to the zippers being put on differently. But the tops themselves are interchangeable between those two groups of years.

Your top does not touch the roll bar covers. (FYI I have a 03 Jeep, 01 frame, 04 fabric)

I just installed one today on my 2002 Sahara. It fit perfectly,it is very close to the OEM top that came on the TJ's.

So has anyone every really measured the thickness of the OEM comparted to the Quadratop? Everyone keeps saying they are made of thinner material, but so far no numbers. Just curious. No I do not work for Quadratec, just in the market for a good top at a resonable price. I would buy the Bestop sail cloth, but most reviews say that the top sags too much and holds water. Not what I would expect out of a $650 top.

If the top is sagging then they're not installing the top to the windshield header channel properly. There should be no sag in any soft top ya put on.

This is what Joe wrote over at Jeepforum.

Quote:
The Quadratec QuadraTop is made in the same facility as the Pavement Ends top, but we have further customized the top to our own specifications. The material is a 23 ounce weighted material. It is mildew and UV resistant and we back it with a 3 year warranty. The stitching is marine grade 135 gauge bonded Anefil polyester thread, it's very strong and also UV protected. The windows are 30mil thick and are 31% tint, all DOT approved. Many other features set the Quadratec QuadraTop apart from other tops.

I've yet to see a single review saying an actual Sailcoth top sags any at all, and certainly they don't sag and hold water. I've had three different Sailcloth tops and they are head and shoulders above any other soft top fabric I've ever seen in thickness and quality. All new Wranglers since 2000 or so have shipped with Sailcloth tops from Bestop and you sure don't see many, if any at all, complaints on them.

The weight represents the thickness. I just looked at the weights in the Qtec catalog last night compared to Bestop. The Quadra top is 23oz which is the same as the 97-02 standard fabric. I forgot what Sailcloth is but it is heavier (28 oz?)

There are two versions of Sailcloth... the earlier 32oz 4-ply Sailcloth the first TJs with Sailcloth tops shipped with which later switched to the current 28oz 3-ply version. The initial 32oz. Sailcloth was said by some to be a little too heavy & stiff but I liked mine.

I can vouch that the 4 ply was heavier. I had a 01 top then got a 04. I like the 01 much better. It is quieter and does not flap as much. I'm going to look at getting the 01 fixed.
